Search engine ranking - any tips?

    Hello,

Currently my site is ranked about page 12 for key search terms (Google.co.uk). I think the site is failry well optimised in Actinic.

Anyone got any suggestions for improving ranking? I have submitted it to a couple of paid weblists (e.g. www.worldsiteindex.com) but am not sure that these are worth the money.

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Cheers,
    Stephen.

Have a good read of the forum, almost everything you need to know is already in here, just needs to be searched for and read. Failing that, contact an SEO specialist as page 12 is Google.co.uk is dire and to be honest tells us that your SEO is nowhere near correct, unless of course your site is almost brand new.

Lee, ok I'll do that. It is a fairly new site - I first uploaded it about a fortnight ago.

If the site is 2 weeks old, forget Google rankings for the time being, concentrate on how the other SEs are ranking you to get an idea. If you search Google for 'Google Sandbox', you will get an idea of the delay you will probably encounter with Google. It's not an exact science and it is somewhat debated, but i think most people agree that a delay in getting a site ranked happens almost all of the time.

That's not to say forget your SEO improvements, far from it, this is the time to work hardest, just don't expect too much from Google at the start.

i consider it a good idea to pay for google ads in the first 3 months of uploading a brand new site.

At least you will get a presence whilst waiting for natural listings to evolve.

These will almost certainly adversly affect your rankings - search google to find out about paid for links. Also on the forum

Why would it adversely affect your rankings? (not that I have subscribed to any paid weblists - just curious).

It's hardly rocket science Sharon, if you got directed to a site by a paid for link or you got directed to a site that had picked up a link automatically through good service or recommendation, which would you prefer?

If you have paid me £1000 to say your company is great when in fact you are crap, i'm sure you can see why that's not great (i hope).
