Actinic v9 Public Beta Underway

The beta programme for Version 9 of Actinic is now underway.

This is your chance to try out the software before it goes on general release. You will be able to see the new features in action and also see how well your current site will upgrade. What we ask in return is you tell us about any problems you find, in order for us to fix them in the final version.

Downloading the Public Beta Software

You can go to the following address to download the software:

The version of the software you are downloading is called 'IBSA'. Please mention that if you have any questions about the beta.

New Features

You'll see two PDF documents when you download the software that give you all the information you need about what's new in v9, and also how to upgrade to v9.

Key new features include:

Tax-inclusive Pricing – Gives you the ability to enter all your prices including tax, to allow more accurate pricing and eliminate rounding errors.
Product Options Wizard – Stepping you through the creation of options that are priced and stock-managed
Google Analytics – Automatic integration and ecommerce tracking with Google Analytics
'New Order' Tab (Business only) – Allowing you to quickly and efficiently enter telephone orders into Actinic

Are there any improvements to the checkout, particularly the number of pages involved.

a couple of immediate questions regarding the beta.

• can we install the beta alongside v8 versions (including live sites)? - or do we have to have a separate machine?
• can we see a list if the features etc without getting through the login process (is it that much of a secret?)
• whats the minimum upgrade path for v9 - How far back can you go v6,v7,v8 etc

Does the "New Order" feature use the same sequential order number as used on the live website?

any idea if v9 will have the option to create vouchers/discount coupons that can only be used once. I know this is on the wishlist so hope it appears

I'll answer what I can for those questions:-

Yes, you can install the beta alongside V8 no problem, when you install it gives you the option to install a new v9 or upgrade your v8 sites. This allows you to test away without affecting your live site

I don't think the features list is a secret, they just probably won't compile a full list until the beta is over.

The 'New Order' feature uses a different order number to online.

No - I'm afraid not. The checkout process is much the same other than the introduction of a 'Checkout Progress Indicator'.

There is a pdf doc on the download page listing every new feature in detail. It's definitely not a secret.

As far as you like - although you can't upgrade with a snapshot in versions earlier than v5.

No - sorry - this one's still on the wish list.

It's a good idea to read the feature list before asking about whether things are included or not. You can see this by following the link to download the software.
