    Postcode Anywhere

OK just for those that have not worked it out

Log into you postcode anywhere account and download the desktop software.

Create a new license, you can also enter you existing online licenses so actinic will generate the checkout forms with the required buttons but you need the desktop application to use the offline ordering screen.

Works a dream, if you already use customised forms and then use the actinic ones you will get the postcode button twice.

Also, if you buy via the link from Actinic, you will get a 10% discount.

      OK

Actinic is now crashing, anyone else imported an existing site and then tried to set up postcode anywhere, interesting i can set up the online licenses but when i set up the desktop, actinic crashes, no errors just freezes.

wondered if any else has tried?

Oh and a tips i forgot to mention, if you have customised you order01 & 02 layouts and added post buttons i suggest you remove these or mark them in you earlier version before you take a snapshot, you may have a little trouble spotting then after, then you end up with duplicates

Hmmm - this is a problem we found in testing, which should have been fixed. The Desktop Postcode Anywhere functionality requires an additional service to be running on your PC called the 'Synchronisation Server'. For some reason, this isn't running on your PC.

Could you go to 'Control Panel > Administrative Tools' on your computer and double-click on 'Services'. If 'Actinic Synchronisation Server' is there, but not started, try starting it.

What version of the software are you running Actinic as? Business Plus? Designer? Are you using XP or Vista?

There isn't any formal support built in yet for upgrading between Actinic versions, so I would strongly suggest uninstalling the whole thing and then re-installing and testing it on a default store, before trying to re-import your site snapshot. Let me know how you get on.

Also - are you on Vista or XP?

OK - thanks for the info. Definitely looks like a bug. It's only happening on Vista machines though. One way around it is in Business Plus go to 'File | Multi User Options | Share This Site's Data' and setup data sharing. This will force the synchronisation server to install and start, and get you up and running with the Postcode Desktop Lookup.

                              Chris no error

it just sits at the splash screen, i left it for an hour while i did other things, looks like another uninstall

A warning to others, dont use postcode anywhere in multiuser then switch to standalone.
