    Mail order issues

    1st Look at V9

    Installed ok
    Imported a V8 site fine

    Looks good so far.

One of the key things I am interested in is offline order functionality.

The new single page looks great, but here are some quirks/improvement I have spotted immediately.

We sell to a lot of Boots store who all use branch numbers.

If I click on Customer Accounts and then search for Boots, it used to just bring up the one Boots account. Now I have about 100’s of different Boots entries. Clicking any of these has the same effect to allow selection of Invoice and Delivery options, (appears to be one for each address). It would seem more sensible to only have one Boots entry as there is actually only one Account, just lots of address.

Second, when I am in this screen I was hoping that the list of addresses would now be sorted alphabetically/numerically, but not so. Any chance this can be changed for the final release?

When you opt for a different delivery address why are you forced to enter the phone number and e-mail address?

With most of our orders that have a seperate delivery address the client is just sending to a work address and the phone number and e-mail address are the same as entered on the invoice section.

    Can this be turned off?

You speak for yourself - this may not always be the case.

      1) For many, their home address/card/telephone details won't be the same as when at work - so you need the alternative for the carrier if there's a problem with the delivery address. OK if they give you a mobile number, I suppose, but then they don't answer it if they're at work.

      2) What about drop-shippers? The delivery contact is totally different from the originator, therefore info required.

Aah, there nows the rub. If you have the option to turn it off, what happens when you get an exception? It won't happen & then you'll be in trouble.

I think you have missed the point slightly.

I am not asking for these to be omited, as you say they are useful on some orders.

What I am asking is that Actinic does not force you to fill them in. Why do I need to retype the number and e-mail address if it is the same?

I.e box is still there and I enter details if required. If they are the same as invoice I can leave them blank.

Do not remove them, just give me a choice if I wish them to be required fields or not.

        Kind regards

You can set this in 'Design | Text | Web Site (cont) | Delivery Address'. Just de-select 'required' for these two fields.

This will do it for your online store as well, but it sounds like you might want that anyway.

I think I need to know more about how your data is set up.

So do you have one customer account called 'Boots'? And does one account have lots of addresses set up in the 'Addresses' tab?

When you say 'it used to bring up one account' when was this? Are you talking about the offline order wizard in v8?

Thinking about it logically, surely when taking an order over the phone you want to be able to select the correct Boots branch to send the goods to don't you? So surely the ability to select the correct address from a list is a good thing? And if it isn't - couldn't you search by postcode rather than just entering 'Boots'?

Thanks for the reply Chris, let me explain slightly better what I mean.

In V8, I have a single customer account called ‘Boots the Chemist Ltd’
This then has one invoice address and multiple delivery addresses.
The delivery addresses are labelled ‘0028 – Worksop’ so branch number and town.

When I wish to enter an order for Boots I take the following route:
New Order – Account Customer – Search ‘Boots’
Then one entry appears for Boots
I select this and then I can choose my delivery address from the drop down list

In V9 after import I still have one account called ‘Boots the Chemist Ltd’ with multiple addresses.
I now click New Order – Customer Account and enter Boots in the Search box
This now brings up a list of all the addresses for Boots, but the name which has been given to each address (e.g. 0028 – Worksop) does not appear anywhere – so I just have alost list of Boots the Chemist Ltd.

Anyway, whichever option I choose the same box appears which shows the default option for both invoice and delivery addresses so I still have to select the correct delivery location at this point. This list of delivery addresses is not sorted alphabetical, or in this case numerical.

I think that two things need to be amended:
this list needs to be sorted alphabetically/numerically, after all it is when you view these addresses in the customer account maintenance
also only one customer account is shown after a search and then you choose the address via the drop down list and/or
if we are going to have multiple entries for each account after a search then the name of the Company account and then the name given to delivery address should be shown to in one of the columns on the left – I would suggest Account Name – Delivery Address Name – Buyer Login – Name

I hope this makes more sense.

Hi James - this does make sense now.

So there are two things that could well be bugs which would really help you with this
                1. Include the 'Short Name' for the address in the list of addresses that appears when clicking 'Customer Account'
                2. Sort the addresses automatically alphabetically by the 'Short Name'
Actually on this second point, you can sort the data that appears in the search results by clicking the column headings. [EDIT] I now know which box you mean. Yes - the should be sorted alphabetically.

Does each branch address have a different buyer, or is it all one buyer?

Oh OK - I was thinking if you had a different 'buyer' for each address, that would be one way around it, but I guess that doesn't work.

Anyway, I've raised a bug to get the address 'Short Name' included in the search results, and also to sort the 'short names' alphabetically when you have to select them in the MOTO form.
