    Emails - SMTP

    Hi,

we are struggling like many before us to set up our email config. ive got all the details from my host (actinicwebhosting.co.uk) yet all emails fail to send and receive. tried linking to outlook 2003 but still no joy. we have therefore since tried the actinic integration and get the same error message

'The computer you specified as your mail server is not a valid mail (SMTP) server. Check the computer name or address and try again. If it fails again, then it is possible, you were locked out by a firewall program, or you don't have network connection to this server.'

we've searched right through the forums and found a couple of people with the same issue yet no one using actinic web hosting

has anyone else had such an issue??

    all replies much appreciated

    regards

Why not ring Actinic and ask them for the settings - that what you are paying them for

In network setup what do you have set as your SMTP server?

If you have smtp try changing it to localhost and if you have localhost try changing it to smtp.

We had an issue with our hosts when they moved us to new hardware and had to change from localhost to smtp but this did not cure the problem and it was actually a firewall issue on the new server so if changing the smtp setting doesn't help it is your hosts and most probably a firewall setting on the server which they will need to change for you.

Another helpfull tool i found which i passed on the url to my hosts is if you go to help > Troubleshooting > Web Site Analisys you will get a web page within your site with all the details of whats happening or not as the case might be and a decent host can use this to figure out any issues (once you have run the Act Site Analysis from Actinic simply send the url of the web page that opens to your host so they can run the script to test things as required)

Who are actinicwebhosting.co.uk? Are they part of Actinic?

If I go to http://www.actinicwebhosting.co.uk/ I only see a broken V7 demo site.

I kind of expected to see a welcome page where I could follow links to support info.

tends to indicate this is something for your host to sort out

              Hi,

As you have purchased hosting from us you are entitled to telephone support for hosting issues only without paying extra.

You should have received a 'Welcome to Actinic Hosting' document and in it it states:

"If you did not purchase your domain name from Actinic your email will be disabled and no address will have been set up. This is to be sure that your current email is in no way affected by our server. If you wish to use email on our server please let us know and we will enable it for you."

This could be the reason that your mail account isn't working so please call in and ask for it to be switched on. We will just need to know your domain name.
