Running Multiple Copies of Actinic On One PC

    Hello,

Is it possible to run more than one copy of Actinic on one pc? We're hoping to split our site into a few more targeted online stores and I thought it might be cheaper to buy a copy of Actinic Designer and a few copies of Catalog Client than splashing out on the Multi Site version. I was also after the option to move the individual sites to other pc's later on.

    Cheers,

    Jon

Designer and client will not run on the same PC - if you go this route you will need 2 PCs - covered before on the forum in more detail.

          Hi,

You can run Designer and Client sites on the same pc, it's the license key that determines the type of site you have. You will only install one version of the software but you would then go to 'File | Sites | License New Site' and enter the relevant key in. Note that you must have unique keys for each client site you license.

You can use the snapshot facility to move sites to other pc's.

            not true.

i have previously ran 4 different versions of actinic all at once, including the combination mentioned and have them all working perfectly.

i used a full version of sandboxie
            http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?DownloadSandboxie

a seperate safe sandbox and an understanding of the concepts of a sandbox for each application was all that was required.

Gabe - upon installing a newer version via sandboxie it asks to upgrade existing sites - is this sandboxed and simply part of the regular installation routine? IE the old sites stay the same but are upgraded in sanboxie only?

this is one of the more odd behaviours of sandboxe, and takes some getting used to.

every change you make to a sandboxed applicaiton never makes it to the filesystem, nor the registry.

dlls are registerd only while the sandbox is active.

standard apps can read the filesystem, but only sandboxed apps can see the changes.

this makes it a great tool to test out any programs (and betas *ahem*) and not effect the system. afterwards, simply delete the sandbox, and it is gone, in fact, as far as windows is concerned, it was never there.

Sandboxie seems great and I have installed it and had a quick play.

I'm a bit confused though. To run another Actinic version say v852 in Sandboxie whilst having v850 installed on the pc - do I select to run the Actinic install in the Sandbox and then all relevant spawned activities of the install will remain in the Sandbox?

If so then with the full version of Sandboxie I could have multiple Sandboxes and keep all the installations.

This seems to be better than VPC for this purpose.

That is what I am guessing at - launch the v8.5.2 install .exe inside Sanboxie.

                              Cheers for the confirmation.

Not keen on my sexual proclivities being broadcast on a public site though
