Using new V9 themes in V8

    Hi All,

Just had a look at some of the new “Themes” in V9 and would like to try one in my current V8 edition. Can this be done (easily)? Any advice before I attempt this would be appreciated.

    Thanking you

with abit of experince of layouts etc i would imagine it is possible, i am not aware that any variables etc have changes considerably. as with all things if you spend a little time experimenting with a default site - you can probably answer your own question. but if you are new to Actinic your money would be best spent upgrading to 9. compare the cost of your hours spent trying to acheive this versus an upgrade (bearing in mind if your shop is still live andtaking money in a couple of years you will have to upgrade anyway)

hi i started to rip out reflective

yeah its possible i tinkered for a few hours, nearly got it there barr the menus

just copy the style sheet, copy everything in the design library with the theme you want to use
and make an exact replica in V8
i gave in after i proved i could do it, but chose to get a pro in and save my time to list new products etc

so unless you have a good few hours to play forget it just get a designer to do something similar or better ( my prefered option)
or wait till v9 is live and do a site relaunch then
Remembering the road to Actinic enlightenment is a long and sometimes painful one.

Yes, I will upgrade the second V9 is ready to go live, and I don’t plan to spend days trying to make the themes work. I just hoped (wish-full thinking) that there was a file of themes that I could just copy over to the V8 folder if I knew which file.
        As I said wish-full thinking
Any comment from the Actinic staff?
        Regards

Once you've got the theme working in v9, you could copy all the images into your v8 site folder, then copy across the HTML of the 'Works Best With Reflective' layout into v8 - then copy the CSS from 'Styles for Reflective Theme' layout into the main 8 stylesheet.

I've never done it, and it wouldn't be formally supported, but you you give it a try and see what happens.

If you are upgrading to v9 when live you may as well get the site working in v9 and then update the products / orders etc upon formal release ... no need to install into v8 first IMO

Its getting to be that you can rip most things out of V9
