Discount on Product in Same Group

I know how to create discounts on products via the Marketing Tab but have just come up against a problem, hope you can help...

I have a product which when clients purchase two I want to give them an extra one free, restricted to that product only so that a purchase of any other product even if in the same product group would not be part of the discount rule calculation.

However you can't allocate the reward product if the trigger is based upon the host group of that product, so how do you do it?

Products can only be in one group, so you need to move it into a group of its own.

It's Irish Science but the result is acheived, thank you.

I set the discount to "% off cheapest" and put each product in it's own group (as required) so that the cheapest was also the only product in the group, the rule works. Thing is if I were now to set up another surcharge / discount these products would be excluded from the new rule...

Actinic, a fix is needed here.

This has been discussed a few times before. It would be good to allow products to be part of multiple groups.

I'll second that. Not being able to allocate products to more than one group seriously hampers the discount functionality.

I end up creating groups with single products in most cases and multiple discounts.

Has anyone come across the problem where the discount list seems to randomly order itself irrespective of where you move the discount to in the list?

I can't recreate a problem with this. I've re-ordered my discount list a number of times and the display always shows as per the list. Do you have an example of this displaying incorrectly?
