Digital Downloading of multiple files in one order

Put simply; how do I do this?

I don't wish to zip them up (for various reasons) so is there a way that an order for one product can result in links to more than one file?

    Thanks,
    PB

Not that i've ever seen. Zipped is the only way.

      Shame

      This is a shame.

This means I have to make zips of every one of my MP3s - as the extra file is an introduction. These are big files already and zipping them is going to make the files larger, plus of course re-uploads will be required.

I suppose I could code for the introductory file so that it is always downloaded, but this would be a complex solution and the wrong way to do it.

LinkLok by Vibralogix have a product which integrates with Mal's E Commerce, which was my set up before I turned to Actinic.

LinkLok is able to do this so if anyone out there wants to see if it can be done with Actinic I'd be grateful. The LinkLok solution is very reliable and looks good.

      Thanks,
      PB

I think the only way to do this would be to include a link to the intro file in the confirmation email.

          Progress

Okay, for other readers, I have looked into what you suggested.

By going to: Design/Text/Web Site (Cont) Tab/Receipt Tab and editing the text for 'Receipt Download Message', I can edit the text to include the link to my intro file.

There are three problems with this that maybe I can get help with:
          1. I don't know how to put a line break in the text, as it goes in a non-html email, yet just typing a line break doesn't work.

          2. Annoyingly, this text also appears near the top of the receipt page, where it doesn't make sense to include my extra link

          3. In the Receipt page there is also a download link. Editing this text above doesn't affect this and editing this is probably possible but I don't know how.

Any help appreciated before I break out WinZip!

How about putting it in the Customer Email?
You can edit this in Actinic - Design View - Page Type - Customer Email.

              Editing the customer email

              Weeeellll,

The site also sells CDs, Books and candles but editing the customer email will send the response to everyone.

Unless I use a condition for if there is a DD, and then the editing gets a bit complicated. Can anyone help with this?
              Kind regards,
              Phil Benjamin

Good point (although it might help your sales). I don't think there will be a conditional test to determine what product is contained in the order.

Maybe somebody else has some other ideas....

Can a digital download not have components then?

Looks to me like you can.

                    So:
                    - create product called 'Intro' or whatever.
                    - Assign your intro file to it as a DD.
                    - Add a component to your other DD products and associate your intro product with it.

Looks like it should work to me, but I've never used Digital Downloads.

                      Solution!

Thank you for that - we now have a solution.

It will work as Olderscot suggested, and may be appropriate for some people, but I would prefer it the other way round, so here's what I have done, written as a general solution. I think it will work for many files, not just two but I've only written it for two.

                      ---
                      1. Create your product as a DD and include the main download file.
                      2. Create a new product with the additional download file. This is a DD and is set up as normal for a DD. The cost for this should be zero. The product page need never be seen.
                      3. Add a component to the main product with (in my case) 'Is Optional' unchecked.
                      4. Enter in 'Associated Product' the compulsory MP3 item.
                      5. Leave 'HTML for name' blank - so the extra file wont be listed on the product page.

That should do it - unless I've missed something...
                      Kind regards,
                      Phil Benjamin

                        Ps:

Just realised that I've done it exactly as Olderscot suggested, after all!

                        Nice one.
