    SSL Network Settings

We have had an SSL cert installed using the format https://secure.domain.co.uk where the website is located at http://www.domain.co.uk

Within the 'secure' directory there is a cgi-bin folder.

Do we now need to change the standard and SSL network settings so that they both point to 'public_html/secure/cgi-bin/' rather than 'public_html/cgi-bin/'

Presumably we can't have a site using 2 cgi-bin folders?

You need a 'symbolic link' established by the web host.

      Hi Bill,

Can you explain what you mean by that please?

Do you mean that we continue to upload to public_html/cgi-bin/ and the web host changes the settings at his end so that any links to public_html/cgi-bin/ get redirected to public_html/secure/cgi-bin ?

Which network settings are you after? There are already plenty of posts about network settings for SSL but it all depends on who your host is and what the rest of your network settings look like.

A search of the forum is probably your best starting point.

Thanks guys. I always do search the posts before asking but couldn't find anything that related specifically to this type of setup.

The web host is currently sorting it out anyway.

              Thanks again.

I'm glad it's being sorted. The SSL settings aren't usually too big a problem but do need the 'symbolic link' to be set up (most decent hosts do this automatically).

My earlier reply was really meant for Chris99 who seems to have popped up with a rather vague and unspecific question. Is this related to your issue or is it something seperate?

                  Not sure what you mean?

The situation is that the site belongs to my client. I am the webmaster but I don't provide the hosting.

The web host assumed I would set up the network settings and I assumed he would. Neither of us have set up SSL before and we both thought each other had experience of doing this!

He seems to think he has got the settings right and tested them on a test site so we'll just keep fingers crossed it works on the live site.

I'm just trying to find out if he is he someone unrelated to your issue who has a seperate problem.

I don't know. The web host is called Chris but I don't think his surname is 99

Would the real Chris 99 please stand up??
