    Two sites, one inventory...

    I thought I could share product inventory quantities (and perhaps details/more) across sites, but I don't seem to be doing too well.

    Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Specifically wanted to watch stock levels across the 2 sites. Would be nice so that updating other details worked too, but I won't cry if that doesn't happen.

    Jan at molend used to have a tool, or the other option is use QB or sage and actinic link, then manage stock levels through importing and exporting

    ooh you can also do it by linking both DB to and external DB aswell

      Hmm. I can manage overall inventory via some import thing I wrote from our accounts package.

      I was hoping for something a little speedier and more dynamic with External Links or something...

        errm... isn't that what Darren suggested?

        One Excel spreadsheet or Access database dynamically linked to both sites? Only one of the three can be open at a time, mind you

          We are not selling our stock link tool anymore, not enough sales, so we withdrew it. It used external linking to an access database and had a few bells and whistles on it, so that it the way I would suggest you went.

            Crikey, you were up early Jan...

            Right. I've just done this.

            1) I am rubbish at databases and PC's in general (I run a mac). So I needed a database file with our product info. I already have one - the Actinic.mdb file... So I duplicated that, renamed it file.mdb.

            2) I set external links to map across all the product data (read and write) on both sites to the products "table" in the file.mdb database.

            Now - as far as I can tell - a change on one site, reflects in the other site, in so far as the options I've mapped across.

            Have I missed anything?
