Product import problem

I'm rebuilding a v7.0.6 site in v8.5.2, which only has 175 products, but most of them have components, attributes and choices. Because of this I'm trying to import everything without using the v7 snapshot - the site had been upgraded from v5, then v6, then v7. v8 was an upgrade too far, too many legacies of previous versions, hence the rebuild.

I imported the v7 snapshot into a spare v8 site, then exported the contents, customer accounts and shipping tables, ready to do a hierarchical import into the real site. However, although I'm getting all the sections and sub-sections with the import, there are no products in the real site. There's a long list of failures like this:

Line 29: Wrong number of fields. Expected 18 but got 16.
Line 32: Wrong number of fields. Expected 18 but got 16.
Line 45: Wrong number of fields. Expected 18 but got 16.
Line 56: Wrong number of fields. Expected 84 but got 81.
Line 70: Wrong number of fields. Expected 10 but got 8.
Line 71: Wrong number of fields. Expected 10 but got 8.
... and so on, about 2250 lines.

All the mappings seemed to be OK when I was importing, but I even got the same result when importing back into the spare site I exported from, no products.

Can anyone help, or maybe quote to fix the database, so that everything imports?
