    Discounts And Customer Groups

I am just setting up wholesale customers, who will log in, unlike normal retail customers who won't. So far so good.

I want to do several things and I can't see how! I've set up several wholesale customer groups (according to discounts given)

    but

I only want to give discounts on some items. I presume I need to combine product group and wholesale customer, but can't see how to do that.

    any ideas, people?

I stand corrected, or hopefully confirmed...

After setting up and populating the Customer Groups and Product Groups you can then go to Discounts and on the Cart Contents tab select the Product Group and discount on the General tab - after that you can then go to the Restrictions tab and select Restricted to Customer Group and add the required Customer Group.

You can also hide pricing per product per Customer Group on the Prices tab of the Product configuration (Content tab) by selecting to Enable or not in the table after adding in your required Customer Group.

It's not an easy thing to explain and the help in Actinic does not give enough examples of the possibilities.

this seemed like the perfect solution,Duncan. When I applied it, it didn't work!

The products displayed the normal price and 'your price' but 'your price' was the same as the normal price, but the discount did appear at the cart stage.

I've spoken twice to Support and they can't get it to work either, so it seems like I'm going to have to put a wholesale price in for each item - very cumbersome. The alternative is to tell my wholesale customers that their discounts will appear later and to ignore the promise of the phrase 'your price'!!

        Hi Jane,

I think there is some confusion between the different types of discounts. When you set up a customer group you can set a 'blanket' discount for products in the 'Customer Pricing' tab in the discounts window (ie 10% off everything). This price will then be displayed against the 'Your price' label. You can disable/override this for particular products (prices tab of each product).

The 'Cart Contents' and 'Order Level' tabs on the discounts window are for general discounts that you can restrict to certain customer groups but this does not affect what is shown against the 'Your price' label. You can put a message on the 'Presentation' tab of the discount to show the customer what will happen and if the discount is restricted to a customer group then it will only show for those customers.

I hope that makes it a bit clearer.

          thanks, Tracey it does.

I think what I'm probably going to do is give certain customer groups the site-wide discount and then hide the products from them where no discount applies.

          But a couple more questions:

I have some customers who have special products. I know how to hide these from everyone else, but will they be found by search engines?

Second question: is it possible to give a customer group a certain discount if they spend a certain amount and a bigger discount if they spend more than that e.g. 10% if they spend over £50 and 20% if they spend over £100.

It is as long as you remember the bigger discount has to be listed first. Actinic looks at the list and stops when it finds a match, so no-one will ever see the 20% at £100 if the 10% at £50 is listed first.

              hello Bill,

I didn't know that so it's useful info for the future, but the group I'm thinking about is a customer group who get a site wide discount done via the Customer Pricing tab.

                Hi Jane,

You would have to do that via the 'Order Level' tab on Discounts & Surcharges and restrict it to the customer group. As Bill says, make sure that the discounts are listed in descending order, then it should work.
