can't add all layouts

Hi

This is probably a very silly question but I have looked for the answer and can't find it so here goes...

I'm using V8 Business.

Why are there layouts in the library that aren't available when you try and add a layout in the design section? I want to add the library layout "login in a box" to my home page side bar but when I choose "insert layout" it's not there to choose?

Please can someone tell me why and also how I do add it to the sidebar?

I just tried it on Catalog and it works fine.

do you have the "use fixed layout" box checked?
This will make more layouts available to you.

Some layouts need assigning to the selector before they are available .. in the library under the section with your layout and open its layout selector (a pink circle)... click on the "values" tab and ensure your layout is showing in the right hand column.

Thanks for your replies.

The Login In a Box was in the values for the selector so that didn't make a difference however I created an exact copy of the "Login in a Box" layout and called it something else, then when I selected "use fixed layouts" the copy was listed even though the original wasn't.

One more little bit of actinic that I don't really understand!
