    Price updating bug?

    Hi,

A quick background to this problem, I managed to modify our spreadsheet with over 1000 incorrect prices which were uploaded and have been selling products for the last 4 days at a fraction of there normal price - ouch. Spotted last night, corrected spreadsheet and did a flat file import with no actual line errors but I do get a pop up at the end "An unexpected error occurred while trying to carry out the import. Please check your settings and try again". Despite this, the import appears fine.

I uploaded the site and all pricing returned to normal. I checked through orders today to find we are still giving products away at the earlier incorrect prices. I added one of the suspect products to the cart and the value in teh cart differs from that displayed in the product description. I have carried out a site refresh and that has sorted it. I then changed just one product price a small amount (from £15.28 to £15.20 + VAT) and did a normal upload and the price difference is there again.

See our product 1470-008 http://www.technobots.co.uk/acatalog...Motors_76.html Where the displayed price is £17.86 (was £17.95), add to basket and you get £15.28 instead of £15.20. If you view the shopping cart, the old price is confirmed. BTW, why is there such a large blank area from the shopping cart page top to the cart contents list?

Apologies for raising 3 issues in one post but felt that better than a number of new threads.

    Paul

When I view your basket I am seeing a blank page as the body content is being pushed to the bottom of the page

I get £17.95 when adding to the basket but displays £17.86

I also get the cart pushed down the page using Firefox.

Looks like the .cat files are out of sync with the .html files ... I would suggest suspending ordering and purging the website to set everything back again.

As an aside Paul the site is very difficult to use with the colour scheme.. blue and yellow do not really mix that well. The vast majority of e-commerce websites have a white background for a reason... not least so product images do not appear to be in boxes.

Your problem with the shopping cart being pushed down is down to having a three-column structure using tables, where the side columns have loads in them, but the middle column has very little. The default vertical alignment of a table cell is to be in the middle of the cell, so hence that's where the basket table is ending up.

You just need to edit your overall layout and add a valign="top" into the cell that contains the INNERLAYOUT layout selector.

The pricing issue is rather more complicated - as Jont says, the prices in the *cat files and the prices in the HTML are out of synch. I would suggest trying the following

          1) Do a 'Housekeeping | Compact Databases'.
          2) Do a 'Help | Troubleshooting | Purge and Refresh Website' making sure you select the option to remove all *.cat files from the site.

This will disable your site for the duration of the upload, but it should get everything back in synch again.

Thank you for your replies. I have carried out the purge and refresh over the last few hours. Now whenever I add a product to the cart I get " Essential work is being carried out on the shop. It is not possible to place orders at the moment. Please try again later.
Please wait for your browser to forward you to the next page or click here.
" Even though the refresh has completed uploading and I have carried out a further upload to allow on-line ordering which was suspended whilst I did the refresh. What have I done wrong?

OK - my best guess is there is an issue with your server which is stopping the perl scripts from being able to access the *.cat files on your server that contain the prices. I suspect that the perl scripts were accessing an old version of the file rather than the new one. I see you have been in touch with the support team. They will be able to upload your site to a test web server and see whether it is your server causing the issues, or whether there is an issue with the software.

Hi Chris, I have just contacted support as I am starting to panic a bit as the weekend is when we receive most orders. I am waiting a FTP address so I can send you a snapshot.

                Thanks, Paul.

Hi Chris, I have just carried out a site refresh and now the site is working again (deep sigh of relief). I think I'll leave it alone again until Monday before I try and break it again! Btw, if your support team still send me the ftp address, I can still send in the snapshot.

Hi Chris, well at least I'm back to where we started in post 1, i.e. an update only changes the displayed price and not the price when added to the cart. Hopefully you can resolve this next week. At least the orders are coming in again.

                      Thanks, Paul
