So I've gone from 8 to 9 and generally the cross over was fairly simple and straight forward. No problems as yet with the site although I now have to re impliment all script changes apparently theres a backup logs folder where I can source them from.
I like the overall look and feel and definitely like the new design window code/design feels alot more like dreamweaver now. Obviously lacking the facilities of dreamweaver but I wasnt expecting any of those anyway.
Still one thing that has annoyed me from day one is the content tree.
Anything new added to the content tree automatically gets sent to the top. (makes sence, until you want your site in A-Z.. You then have to drag them all back into the the root starting with Z so by the end its all in order. A simple up and down arrow would be nice.
The next point is something thats already been discussed and was on my mind during the upgrade. And that is, is this actually a new version? And crucially is it worth the upgrade price? I don't think I'm ready to answer either of those until I've used it for a month or so. But what I can say is that I definitely believe the future of Actinic lays in plugin's and "extentions" for Actinic.
Dreamweaver realised this about 3-4 years ago, after releasing version after version (I've owned dreamweaver from 2000 to present) then came the extention bridge software. Which links "plugins" that users choose whether they need them or not to the dreamweaver interface.
This is definitely what Actinic needs, we dont want to wait years for the little things to be introduced over time.
The process is simple actually doing it; is probably not.
But mimicing the extention software used with dreamweaver would seem like the most seemless way of doing things. Having a program running in the tray called something like Actinic Bridge. Which links both Actinic and the Plugins of the future.
Then Actinic could release a Developer pack for the special group of users that create mods and addons already.
The sort of addons I would like to see are ones that would turn a desktop package into a dynamic one.

Maybe costing £30 as a plugin.
This will free up Actinics time to improve the core program. Rather than releasing "loads" of new features. Also lets the end user choose what they use and also offers better value for money.
This also means that from a "wish list" other companies and individual developers can pick up the ball and make said plugin thus giving the users what they actually want.
I have some extensive knowledge in software development and I definitely see it possible.
Now all that the heads of the company are going to want to know is, will this be a good investment and WILL IT MAKE US MONEY.
I think yes to both. I would like to see something like this implemented in v10 and it will open the door to take this software to the next level.
Overall on v9 I see it more as a visual and userablity upgrade than anything else. I do love the new gui, but is it worth £250? Maybe not but I am still glad I did it.
