General Script Error and Upload Problems

    Good afternoon all...

I have been experiencing problems with our site http://www.denbigharmysurplus.co.uk for the last 24 hours. It was first highlighted when I received the following General Script error when putting a dummy order through:

Error: Error opening configuration file ../acatalog/prompt.fil. No such file or directory

I tried Pressing the Browser Back Button and trying again, as suggested beneath the error message, but no darn luck...

I tried to reload the site, but nothing was happening. Actinic seemed like it was thinking about it, but no window popped up, no files checked, no successful upload

Entering another Shipping Zone was the last change I made. Though I can't see how this change would have caused the problem, I restored from the last Back Up anyway.

Still no change. I've taken a Snap Shop and proceeded to Phone the Help Line, but I've been number 2 in the queue since 2 and no-one has been available to phone me back so I turn to you guys.

You've helped me realise my obvious glaring errors in the past, so I'm hoping you could do the same again.

    Thanks in advance,

    Rich

the first thing to do is a site refresh, this is on the troubleshooting menu, opt to replace cat and fil files

Pretty common problem with solutions already in the forum, website purge and refresh usually required from memory.

        Thanks for the quick replies...

I had tried both of those suggestions (Sorry, should have mentioned that in my first post).
Actinic isn't following through with the command though. The cursor turns to a rotating circle and there I stand, gormlessly, in anticipation (This is a fairly acurate image of me too!!!)

Do you have Microsoft Access? I would suggest going into your ActinicCatalog.mdb database and deleting everything that's in the 'FileList' table. (make sure you do a backup before doing this). This basically forces Actinic to upload everything again the next time you do a refresh, which should replace any missing files. It should get the upload window appearing again as well.

A 'Housekeeping | Compact Database' wouldn't hurt either.

                Chris,

When you say everything in the FileList Table do you mean Everything, All Columns and Rows?

                Cheers,

                Rich

Delete all the rows - leave the columns. (Backup first!)

Deleting the FileList Table in Access and Compacting the Databases does not seem to have made any difference.

I've also heard from the Guys we host with, there's been some problems with the ftp, so they've issue all there customers with new Passwords.

I've changed the Settings to suit, but this has helped either.

Is there anything else I can try?

                    Thanks in advance,

                    Rich

                      Hi,

Try going into the Network Setup screen and change the 'CGI script ID' no and then refresh.

                        Will you marry me???

Thank you so much for all your input, everyone.

                        Much appreciated,

Thanks for the offer, but I think bigamy is frowned upon in this country

I'm glad this is now working for you but you will also need make sure you change any hard-coded links that reference scripts to use the new script ID number. For example, if you have hard-coded a link to the checkout it would look something like:

                          <A HREF="http://domainname/cgi-bin/os000001.pl?ACTION=Start" .....

If you changed the script ID no. to '2' then you would need to change:

                          os000001.pl to os000002.pl

Your site looks like a fairly standard design so I would be surprised if you have done this but I've mentioned it in case anyone else uses the solution from this thread.

Thanks for the Tip regarding Hard-Coded Links. It doesn't apply to me at the moment, but who knows what the future will bring.

Can you think of what caused all of this. Is changing the CGI Script ID something I will have to do often?

                              Hi,

It looks like one of your scripts may have corrupted. It's very difficult to say why this happens, but changing the script ID number causes new ones to be regenerated.

Changing the script ID can be done if a purge and refresh doesn't work (Help | Troubleshooting), or another way would be to delete the *.pl and *.pm files from the site folder and then copy the original scripts from 'c:\program files\actinic v8\Original' and paste back into the site folder. Then delete the Actinic scripts from the cgi-bin on the server and refresh the site (if doing it this way or via the purge and refresh any script changes will have to be re-applied before refreshing).
