    FTP lockout.

I have 5 sites hosted by Easyspace, 3 of them (all V8) are working fine, but the other two are not able to upload at all using FTP, I get a timeout error on both. This just started last week - these two sites have been running OK for years.
Also I am not able to manually access these two ftp sites although I can still manually access the other three.
One site is V8 and the other V7.
I phoned Easyspace and they assured me that the ftp was working and they could access it OK and all the permissions were set right for Actinic.
I thought, OK, it may be a network/firewall issue.
So yesterday I took the two sites home and set them up, from here, I could manually access ftp sites, Actinic could access the ftp and uploading went ahead OK.

This morning however, I adjusted some stock levels and when I went to upload, I got the timeout error again with FTP on both sites and now I cannot manually access either ftp site but I can still access the other three - the same as at work.
At the unit we get our internet service from BT, at home it's cable.

I've turned all the firewalls off, windows, norton and the cable router. No joy.
Today the network test stops dead at checking the ftp transfer mode. But yesterday it ran OK and passed.
Has anyone any ideas? Is it Easyspace, Actinic, firewall or what. Something is tripping and blocking my computers access to the ftp. I can still continue the uploads on both sites with http.

If you have changed nothing and three of them work fine then it sounds like the ftp account usernames and/or passwords. I don't know Easyspace, but can you perhaps create another ftp account to test with.

Also try using an ftp client instead of Actinic such as SmartFTP or CuteFTP or similar.

You could also check your server ftp logs to see what errors are recorded when an attempt is made to login.

      Thanks for your reply.

The usernames and passwords are correct.

The error message I get when I try to manually connect is:-

"An error occured opening that folder on the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to access that folder.
      Details:- The operation timed out."

I tried SmartFTP and got the following:

      "[11:54:17] SmartFTP v3.0.1012.6

And it listed the files I have on the website.

Hopefully this means more to you than it does to me.

      Best regards

      Linda.

I unticked the "Use Passive FTP Transfers" box, the network test passes and both sites are uploading OK now.
