      Speeding up Performance

If you have any tips to help speed up Actinic's generation and upload of pages, then please post them here.

Anything posted here will be considered for inclusion for maintenance releases of the software.

Once design is not being changed, you can try switching off Design | Customise | Performance | Check for nested HTML Comment and Form tags. This can give a 15%-20% improvement in generation performance.

If all of your pages are getting uploaded every time there may be lists e.g. best sellers, which are getting re-generated all of the time and because they have changed they are triggering an upload of all pages.

So a quick method of speeding up daily uploads is to set the marketing lists to only re-generate every 7-10 days rather than every day.

          Also...

Actinic only uploads what has changed so if your marketing lists are held as separate files and included online via Javascript, this can really help improve generation and upload times.

This is documented in the v9 help - 'Step by Step Guides > Marketing Within The Store > How do I update the list online without having to re-upload every store page?'

Go to 'Web | Network Setup' and ensure 'Use Enhanced FTP' and 'Use Passive FTP Transfers' are both selected.

You can also click the 'FTP Options' button and select 'Enabled' under 'Silent Running'. This will auto-confirm any error messages you get when uploading - so if you get timeouts etc. usually when uploading Actinic, this will automatically retry it for you.

                  That's a V7 thread in the V9 AUG Chris.

I'm afraid I can only really maintain one AUG at once or I will actually go mental. Sorry about that.

As a rule of thumb though, any fixes involving layouts and conditions will certainly work in v8, and anything involving PHP will almost certainly work in v8.

Perl changes will hopefully work - in that I haven't changed any of the Perl script exercises in the v8 AUG when I updated it to v9.

Perl changes seem to be fine, i have implemented shopping cart, mail form and orrder script hacks from V8 in to v9 and they all seem to work ok

'ProductReference' is used rather than 'ProductID' in the AUG fix which turns your sub sections into products.
