    Product Options Affecting weight?

    Hi All,

Probably a very simple thing, but I'm not a web designer so completely stumped! The 'idiots guide' bits were written for me....

How can I set up products so that the option people choose affects the weight of the product? I sell items in various pack sizes, and I don't want to have to charge shipping on the biggest weight for people only ordering the smaller size.

Any help (in idiot-speak) would be greatly appreciated

the only way I can see you could do this is to link each 'choice' to a hidden, associated product with its own weight.

If you're only using product > attribute > choices, you'll need to switch to product > component > attribute > choices (just drag the current attribute to a different product temporarily, create a component and drag the attribute back again)

Create hidden products for each of your choices, giving them the correct weights.
Then, in the component of the MAIN product, go to the permutations tab to link each choice with a hidden product.

    Does that help?
(I hope I got that right myself, my brain is frazzled today!)

Remove the weight from the base product entirely and have the correct weights applied to the choices chosen. If you are adding components, then look at the bottom tickbox (of the group of 4) on the 'general' tab. If you are using permutations then just make sure the correct weights are against the products included into the list. As long as the base products has no weight AND they do have to select one of the options, all should be well then.
