    Rapidly losing patience

Is it normal for Actinic Catalog 9 to crash 3 or 4 times a day? It's becoming very frustrating, especially after the last crash which has now left me with a warning about the Additional Files table not being present in the Jet database. It keeps asking me to correct it and make sure the name is spelled properly. How exactly am I supposed to do this?

OK, so it's created a backup.mdb in the site directory. I can hack a copy of the missing table back into the original. Nice.

It should not be crashing that many times! Was the site an upgrade or a virgin v9 build? Once you have the site functioning compact the database and save a known working snapshot to reinstate it dies again. You should not be needing to muck around in the database... which could suggest something is fundamentally wrong at a low level with the install / upgrade.

I have installed and uninstalled v9 four times now (cleaned registry etc too) and still can't get it to work. All is fine until I make the obvious mistake of daring to try to look at an order ... then the whole thing gives a C++ runtime error and closes.

Looks like it's a job for my friendly local computer shop as I don't think support is going to be any help.

to both peeps with problems here, i would strongly recommend you ask support to look at a snapshot - they may take a while but if there are database errors it would be wise to get them diagnosed.

By all reports they are particularly snowed under at the moment (probably due to the raft of v9 upgrades)

Must be avalanche season as I’ve had a snapshot with them for since the 18th of last month.
The first snapshot they sent back to solve my database errors caused fatal errors on importing and when another support guy tested it it crashed his system altogether.

There is a lesson to be learned in there.... especially in Actinic guy #2 trusting Actinic guy #1

I might become a prophet......in fact i think i already am one. Issues on 8.5.3 and 9.0.1 and we're only halfway through the week. Sigh at the predictablity of it all. 8.5.2 rocks though! (if you snapshot every half hour or so)

Yeh, me actually believing it would be resolved in a reasonable time frame...

You know all it takes is a bit of communication like; thanks for your snapshot misses now sod off for a month!!

Seriously though its more than a tad concerning.

Once you know it will be a month before it is not resolved you become far happier .. it is the not knowing that tends to twist the knife.

                          Simon,

When Actinic V9 crashes it creates dump files that contain very precise details of the cause of the crash, you need to send these to Actinic. V9 shouldn't be crashing, however it might be something odd about your particular site that is causing this to happen (and it might not, I don't know). When I beta tested V9, I was able to crash the program in a dozen different ways but when this was investigated, it was all down to one particular bit of custom HTML on my site. Once I changed this the crashes stopped.

                          Regards,

I'm not even considering upgrading any client sites for at least 6 months as software releases always have problems IMO
