Reducing the length of order numbers

Hi

Could someone please humour me! I've read somewhere how to reduce the length of the order numbers and I can't for the life of me find it - I've spent the last hour searching the forum and the AUG (could have sworn it was there too). I have tried every search combination I can think of, but can't find it.

Does anyone remember it?
