    Actinics own website problems?

Ive just had a call from a potential customer who is trying to purchase Actinic from the website and is having problems. Ive just checked myself and after clicking add to cart on any product it gives error message "this combination cannot be ordered" ? Also the site looks broken in Firefox.

    Is it a Friday thing?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I've let the relevant person know. In the meantime, I suggest your client calls our sales team on 0845 129 4800 to discuss their requirements.

I too noticed several layout and alignment issues with Firefox 2 on Actinic.co.uk's site - when I ordered v9 there were some options missed at the checkout stage simply because the alignment was so far out that the option box wasn't noticeable in its current positioning. Unfortunately, it seems the issues still haven't been fixed.

Frightening isn't it, an ecommerce software company having their own site like that.

There are also a number of broken links on this actinic site:

          http://www.free-ecommerce-informatio...iers/index.htm

This link returns an error page:
          http://www.actinic.co.uk/services/acatalog/index.html

and on the main actinic site on the products/services/support and examples pages the link to actinic cover in the top right hand corner is also broken.
          Quite ironic actually...

I keep getting fairly regular 'Server too busy' messages on this board when trying to look at different threads lately. Inspires confidence

Its obviously the same people who designed the AP page

I have never understood why it is not designed using the Actinic software

we have asked this before and the aswer was that they are software developers NOT website designers and that the shop part is actinic. but like you I cannot understand it - you are a website software producer but you dont use it for your own website. VERY ODD.

                    Couldn't agree with you more.

This would be a perfect opportunity to work with the product as we all have to...struggling with its quirks (I’m feeling generous!)

Surely there is nothing on the actinic website that couldn't be achieved with their own product. So why not use it and show it off to the very best that it could be?

                    Its totally mystifying.

But they don't design it ... they outsource the design to NorthStar.

Obviously Adobe create their sites in SilverLight.. why use the market leading Flash that you are making, selling and promoting when something else can be used?

... then for fun move to the .com version of the site (which I actually prefer)

The corporate mauve / grey of Actinic is replaced by blue and is a completely different site (different design company) and different experience. I appreciate the US will have its own distribution rights but does that extend to brand identity also?

its beyond me. This is the second redesign in the last year so I dont know what is going on as looking at the site it could all be done in actinic and in house which would save a bob or two. All the others use thier own software
