licence keys

I currently have multisite V8 with Designer which uses 2 licence keys.

When I upgrade to V9 do I still need 2 different licence keys or has this been replaced with just one?

The reason I ask is that I registered for an upgrade of both multisite and designer but only received the one licence key.

I have e-mailed sales about this but don't expect to get a reply any where near as quick as I am likely to here.

if you have a multisite key (which I assume is the upgrade one you got?) there isn't much point having a Designer key.
once MS is installed (wel, Business Plus as it's now called) it automatically 'upgrades' ALL sites to BP, regardless of what key they were originally set up with so, even if you register a new site with a Designer key, it will 'upgrade' it to BP anyway.

I mentioned this in Beta testing and got the impression, from CD, that this was a deliberate thing so I guess it makes the actual Designer key pretty pointless in addition to BP.

You should have received two keys. I understand that if you design sites for your customers and wish to supply Actinic 'Client' software then you would need a valid Designer licence.

hmm..true of course.
although, as a word of warning then, in practise all your sites will present themselves as BP sites, regardless of which key you registered them with.

I remember this, from the beta, and the troubles had, you cant have both versions, if you have BP then thats what you are stuck withfor all sites i guess as it is seen as version with more features

Hi Jason,

Probably like you, I've followed the route of the Developer licence, then onto the two keys (1. Designer and 2 Business Multi site) for v8. I also applied for two keys and after speaking to Actinic, was told that I could have only the one unless I paid the two fees. One to licence my own site if retailing over the net and the other for designing sites for clients.

Still feel that I've been short-changed.

The license thing is still a bit of a annoyance for many, if you need them this way it should work that way, not on selling license keys you cant use

I think the next time I have to pay them I'll give them out of date card details and then take several days to get back to them.

If you still waiting i would chase them in the morning, i never did get my call back from support, i also requested details of who to send an invoice to for work to fix a report and they ignored that aswell.

Hi - could you send the key you were sent to cdicken /at/ actinic/co/uk and I'll test it for you. Maybe you could forward the email you were sent from Actinic.

With regards to client sites and so on, it's the 'Developer Subscription' you have with Actinic (rather than the 'Designer' software) that gives you the ability to re-sell client licenses. If you have Business Plus with a Developer subscription, you can purchase and sell client licenses, and run your own businesses as well. This is why you were sent just the one key.

I received my replacement key today which is still saying that it is not a valid key.

I am using V901IDWA

I will forward it to your e-mail account for you to check if it is the key or something at my end.
