Changing a product layout on the fly

I would like to have three buttons on a section, when each button is clicked the product would show a different layout. Just wondered if anyone has tackled this kind of thing before? Or would I need to have three products with different layouts set, and have three product links on the section. ?

If the content is staying the same and you just want to display it in a different matter you could set the buttons to use a javascript stylesheet switcher and ensure your products are fully designed using CSS and not tables. It should be an easy task to implement.
