    Bypassing "Checking Pages" during upload

    Hi All,

Is it possible to bypass the checking pages section of an upload?

It takes over 4 hours to just check all my pages every time i want to upload which is a real pain as it mean I can't work for large chunks of time!

Is there any way I can do this?

    TIA

    Matt.

Nope you are stuck with it, but there are some speed improvements planned in V9, so keep tabs on whether they achieve anything. There has also been some good tips in the forum on performance improvements.

I expect you are running on a ZX81 though as that is really slow, a new spec dual core PC just for actinic will probably see the biggest leap on performance IMO. 4 hours is ludicrous, how many products and what setup?

      4 hours is ludicrous!

I have about 1800 prods, duplicates of each with their own page, about 2500 pages in total!

      The site is www.skins4things.com

I'll be honest my work pc isn't the best, and an upgrade is due soon.

But 4 hours for each upload, spent on just checking, means i have to plan way ahead for even the smallest of tweaks!

Don't get me wrong this part of the upload does take time, however i have sites 4 or 5 times the size of yours uploading in a third of the time. Something is up or your PC is a dribbling wreck, 4 hours is junk. Try it on a beast, i reckon it'd be cut in half instantly.

What sort of spec would you recommend?

The best you can get, the dual core or core 2 duos, (i forget which one is best) is a must IMO, at least 2GB of RAM, preferably 3GB. I have a laptop on AMD dual cores which i've not really tested yet, but i prefer intel dual core myself. my 9 month old system has Intel dual 2.13mhz processors and it flies. I recall a guy complaining about snapshot times and i tried one for him in about a tenth of the time. Intel dual cores are simply rocking and signalled Intel's return IMO.

Nice one. I'll look into speccing up a new pc then, as when it's checking it cripples my pc and I can't do much but sit back and watch!

I'll have a look for those tips on actinic performance tips too.

              Cheers for the advice!

If you are sure the HTML is correct (from a previous clear upload) then try unticking the option in Design | Customise | Performance

I have some v8.5.1 sites on a p2 with 512mB of RAM and it is quicker than that upload time for a larger store - machines leave the factory equal but user installed fluff makes a huge difference.

Have you compacted the database recently - can make noticeable differences to a large installation.

Gave that a go, didn't really speed it up much, i don't think. But because I couldn't watch the whole check process I think it stopped at some point and the dialogue box closed itself, which is annoying so I don't know if there was a problem or not.

Yes, I regularly compact the database.

Check your system tray and make sure you dont have loads of stuff running in the background hogging all the system. Shut down as much other stuff as you can

I've got as little as I can running, but I still need to work on the pc at the same time!

I think upgrading is the only way, and I'm going to look into as soon as possible.

O/T do you know why the dialogue/progress box would close on it's own, as per my post above?

If you are working on other stuff it may have gained focussed and closed immediately via a keyboard action and you did not spot it

I wasn't using it at that particular time, it was at some point overnight. Strange.
