How to make it compulsory to put tel no in box at checkout

    Hi

Does anyone have a javascript or know of a way to set up the Tel No input box on checkout page 1, so that numerics only must be entered. I thought it was already set up like that as standard, but I had a customer enter her country there and typically I needed to ring her for a query on her order! I'd like it so that they cannot progress until this is input.

    Thanks

Call me cynical, but my view is that if people deliberately choose not to read what the boxes are about, then that's their lookout. The email address is a good backstop - if you email them and they don't get in touch or they've managed to get that wrong, too, well tough.

It never ceases to amaze me how dim some people are (not you!) - I'm sure everyone has had customers putting their whole credit card number in the Name box, likewise their house number in the postcode box (more common in v9 I imagine).

There is only so much hand-holding we can do for these poor souls. I've cancelled orders in the past where the address has been indecipherable and the email returns mail undeliverable. No-one's complained yet.

      Hi

Well we obviously have a different view on Customer Service and yes I do agree that it doesn't matter how clear you make things, people just don't read it. The tel no is more for my benefit as I ship out same day gifts for people's birthdays and email can be too slow if the customer is not on the computer until they get home and the order has to go out in the post that day. Being a new business I am looking at building relationships with customers not destroying them with a 'tough luck' attitude and I am not in a position where I can afford to cancel orders either. It doesn't matter how much you are in the right, if you piss a customer off, they simply won't come back and that's a fact of life we have to accept!

      Sorry if this offends.

We built our business on customer service, too. That's why our very first customer still orders with us regularly.

        But you miss the point.

Actinic makes it very easy indeed to get people to put the correct information where it should go.

We can use a script to capitalise automatically the address fields, so lazy fingers don't have to worry about the shift key. Customers can even use a direct input postcode checker to fill in the details for them.

We check 90% of addresses via a desktop checker despite all of the above because we have learnt that far too many people get things wrong. You could get me started on ever falling education standards but hey, let's not go there today.

The customer is not always right - in fact more often than not, they are wrong, wrong, wrong.

One small example from yesterday - angry customer says we have sent the wrong item. I ask her to read me back her order email. "Oh", she says, "you're right, I did ask for that product. Silly me".

          Hi

I don't want to get into a debate about how stupid our customers are, as I said it's a fact of life these days.

Can anyone actually help me with the information I need, please?

          Thanks

            Hi Helen,

I'm afraid that I'm no javascript expert but a quick google search for 'javascript numeric check' brought up a few examples. I don't know if anyone could help with how to implement it into Actinic.

              Thanks Tracey

I did try a few that I found on google, but couldn't get them to work in Actinic. I either got coding errors or if no errors, they didn't seem to work and they all seemd very different so I got totally confused (not difficult!).

So if there are any experts out there......

I'd like to have that. Can you tell me how to sort this for my site?

Sign up with Postcode Anywhere and use the already integrated add-on for v9. v8 can be changed with instructions from the AUG.
