At Top Section Level can I show Sub Sub Section Headings. I know what a c**p Title

    Good evening,

I am creating a new site for a Printer Ink Supplier with 3 tiers of section:

    Printer Manufacturer (Top Level)
    Printer Series (Middle Level)
    Printer Model (Bottom Level)

My clients want to show all Printer Models for each Printer Series in a 3 column format as seen here:

    http://www.printcartridgedirect.com/...dges/index.htm

I've got the 3 columns in place at the Lower level and I could solve the problem by a table with all neccessary links into the page, but would rather find a cleaner solution.

Presently the user will have to select Manufacturer, which then displays every Printer Series, then select Series before seeing all of the model numbers.

How do I display the Printer Series and it's respective subsections when the Top Level (Printer Manufacturer) is selected?

I hope someone understands this post, because the more I read it, the more confused I get

I have search the community, but if I've missed a thread that may solve all my problems (and I have many) please let me know.

    Thanks in advanced,

    Rich

Why not have something like tabs across the top or down the left to select manufacturer and then have the subsections within that section show down the left or in the central area? I think people are generally happy to select make, series and model so i think it is just section/product layouts you need to create plus assign the correct column counts for the pages.

      Okay I'm almost there

I have added the following code to a modified version of SectionLink Layout:

      HTML Code:
      <div><actinic:block type="ChildSectionList" ><a href="<actinic:variable Name="SectionPageName"/>"><actinic:variable Name="SectionName"/></a><br /></actinic:block></div>
This puts the information I want where I want it; but I'm having trouble with colspan and where I should put the command to give me the 3 colums required?

If you are having trouble and you can see it, what do you think it is like for us blind? You need to show us what you have so far if you want some help, otherwise we are just guessing.

The colspan is typicaly declared in the layout list holding the section layout (the orange link)

Lee: Very Sorry, I should have added the screen prints last night.

Jont: I've tried entering the colspan code, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. I can only assume I'm inserting it in the wrong place (No Pun Intended).

If the attachments aren't enough information, just let me know.

            Thanks again,

            Rich

If you have not already changed the code for the layout list (it is the parent layout to the offlline screen grab) simply go to the section and on the layout tab under the section menu change the column counts there... nice and simple due to the inbuilt tables.

                Jont,

That works for the Standard Section Headings, but does not apply to the Child Section List I've added in.

I'd like to keep the Section Heading Centered with the Child List in 3 Coloumns beneath.

Can I apply the colspan to the div I've added, if so what's the corect format?
I've tried myself, but nothing happens to the layout, it's not even flagging up a coding error...

I've done some searching through the community and Knowledge base and colspan seems to be used within <td></td> tags, however, even when I insert tables, I'm not getting the layout I would prefer.

The site is now upload, which I hope will make things easier to understand:

                  www.u-need-ink.co.uk

This list of Printer Models, beneath Epson DURABrite/D/DX Printers, are subsections that I'd like to format into 3 columns.

You'll see from previous posts that both Lee and Jont have tried to steer me in the right direction, but I'm not getting the layout I'd like...

That, or I'm not fully understanding what they have to say, which is very possible...

If they are subsections, then surely 'section column count' will do what you need, just set it on the parent section. There are 2 settings, the top row and then all others.

You should be able to sort what you are trying to achieve from what Lee and myself have posted above.

I have done exactly the same thing at (removed link) using the same concepts

                        I don't doubt it... There's something I'm missing here!

If I insert a table and enter each subsection in it's respective column manually, I can acheive my end result.

I had hoped that I could use the child list so that if a subsection was deleted or hidden online then the layout would adjust according.

I'm not sayng that the information that you have both provided isn't all that I need to know, only that I'm not getting 4 when adding 2 and 2 together

I have been spending a long time on this, so perhaps it;s time for a break and to come back with a refreshed pair of eyes.

Thanks so much for your input,

                        Rich

Much Simpler Than I had imagined!!!

Thanks very much to Lee and John who have tried to steer me in the right direction. They're comments both here and via email have been a big help!

Thanks, too, to the New guy I spoke with at Actinic Support, who although was being told it could not be done, was very patient and polite in telling me he couldn't help

I had, you will know from previous post been trying to encorporate a 3 column ChildList within my section layout. Having searched the Community and Knowledge Base I found reference to a ChildList Block in the AUG (Page 28 to be precise). Ever since I've been trying to shoe horn this bit of code into with no luck what so ever.

I then decided to go back to basics and copy the Factory Set Lists and Layouts already present and mod them to see if I could get the right result...

                          Hallelujah: www.u-need-ink.co.uk/acatalog/Epson.html

I created copies of the "SunSectionListTop" and "SectionLink" Layouts and renamed them.

I then inserted the newly named List into the SectionLink Layout, beneath the existing code:

                          Code:
                          <div class="product_list">
                          			<h3 class="product" align="center"><a href="<actinic:block if="%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22IsLoginPageSuppressed%22%20%2f%3e%20AND%0d%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22UnregCustomersAreNotAllowed%22%20%2f%3e" ><actinic:variable name="SectionPageName" /></actinic:block><actinic:block if="%28%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22IsLoginPageSuppressed%22%20%2f%3e%20%3d%3d%20false%29%20OR%0d%28%3cactinic%3avariable%20name%3d%22UnregCustomersAreNotAllowed%22%20%2f%3e%20%3d%3d%20false%29" ><actinic:variable name="SectionURL" /></actinic:block>" target="_self"><actinic:variable name='SectionName'/></a></h3></div>
                          			<p><actinic:variable name='SectionDescription'/></p>
                          		</div>
<actinic:variable name="ChildSectionList" value="Child Sub Section List With Horizontal Dividers" />
Instant result, no need to reference Child Lists or subsection the Existing layout was working fine. I then modified some of the CSS within the List Layout (The Orange Text Link, thanks Jont for pointing me several times in that direction), changed the Columns Counts and created some new CSS for the actual Layout and got a look that my clients are happy with.
