    Importing products from mySQL

    Hi,
I was hoping someone could give me a little advice regarding the possibilities of importing products stored within a mySQL web database in to an Actinic store.

My knowlege of actinic and mySQL is very limited and most other posts have confussed me so far. I simle would like to know if it is possible before I start what will most likely be months of reseach and hard work getting it to work.

Ideally, what I would like to happen is to design a new Actinic store, setup the mySQL database (hosted together on a web server) and them be able to import all the details, images, etc in one go. There are about 3,000 product on the database. Then to be able to update the database which would then automatically update the store.

    Any advice would be great

Actinic holds it's product information offline on your computer - therefore you would first need to get the mySQL data off the server to your pc - after that you should be able to import the products into Actinic.

If you don't know how to get the mySQL data into Excel then something like this may suit you:

      Thanks for the reply.

So, I once I convert the mySQL database into an excel file, I can then import all of the product details and images into my actinic store?

What about updating. Ideally, what needs to happen is for database to be updated and this to automatically update the store. I cant see this happening automatically, if the database needs converting. Am I correct.

If someone knows if this can be done and how to do it. I would be interested in subbing out the project. Quotes needed.

You can set up external linking from Actinic to an external file or database. Have a look in the Actinic program help for external linking.

Ok. I have managed to setup my mySQL table on my Hostgator server. I am now trying to link to it via my copy of Actinic Design but cant understand how. I have looked at the Advance User Manual and Help guide but can understand what goes where.

I get to the Exteranl Links dialog box but thats as far as I can get.

Any pointers? Am I out of my depth?

          Thanks
