    Cookie Error - IE7 - Please Help!!!

    Hi all,

Just today I'm getting a cookie error on ALL MY SiTES. Some links below...

    www.abcbabygifts.co.uk
    www.snugglefeet.com
    www.superstarbaby.co.uk
    www.boxes4babies.com

    It's only on IE7, Firefox is OK, I havn't checked IE6.

If I change my IE7 to allow all cookies I get the same error. I tried 5 computers and my mobile phone with Windows mobile 6 and the same error. Sites haven't changed, nothing as has changed at all (Actinic, browser, ISP, firewall....).

Please help and test the above links and let me know what you get.
    What can it be???

    The error is:

This shopping application requires permission to use cookies on your machine, but this has been denied.

This can be for several different reasons, but they are all under your control:

    - you may have disallowed cookies altogether in your browser

    - you may have the privacy policy in your browser or internet security software/firewall set to a level that stops cookies from being used by this shopping site

Cookies in this shopping application are used to keep track of your cart contents, remember names and addresses when you ask for them to be remembered and, when relevant, keep you logged on.

Cookies are not used in any way that abuses your privacy or security.

Please change your settings to allow cookies either in your browser or firewall. If you choose not to, I'm afraid that we cannot complete your request.

I did this fix and it works now, the strange world of Actinic!!!!

If you go to 'Web | Configure Expiry Periods' and change that to 24 hours

To be fair to Actinic I think it's a server problem. I have a VPS in the UK and another in the US and I also have one shared hosting account.

Only the VPS in the UK was effected. Some sites on the VPS in the UK haven't been touched or updated in months and they all had the Cookie problem.

The shared hosting and the US VPS were all OK, very strange!

Maybe it was an update on the VPS UK server, maybe a CGI / Perl / Java.. update that caused the problem? How knows?
        Regards,

        Les

Just to update people, my sites are suffering from this at present as well. Just about to run an update on one of them to see if the above fix works on mine as well!

Any clues as to what may have changed would be good to know as well!

Weirdly though, the sites both work in Firefox, just not IE7 & Safari...

          Curious...

              Hi Jont,

No Nothing. Not that i've spotted, and i've checked incase somethings slipped through on an auto update i've not seen.

It definately did it with safari & IE7, but not with firefox.

I've just run the update on one site and the fix mentioned above has worked. IE7 & Safari now work again.

Its odd for sure. Only problem is my other site I can't update till work in the morning. Oh well!

It's a strange one Simon, it's nothing to do with IE updates (I think). I tested mine on about 7 computers accoss the UK and the same problem.

Even on my mobile phone with Mobile 6 didn't work, I think it may have been a web server update.
                Regards,

                  Hello,

I'm sending you this message from France where I got the same problem with IE7.

Tried to refresh, delete cookies, put down security, turned off Norton internet Security... nothing worked. Still the same error.

I have a laptop and a desktop computer, on the first one with IE7 and Vista, I worked well , and the other PC with the same config, it didn't work.
Both are on the same home WIFI network.

I tried what you wrote about WEB - Configure Expiry Period and it didn't work.

I tried to set 40 hours, and then IT WORKS !

Thanks a lot for the help I found here.

                  Sébastien

                    Hi Sebastion,

Thank you for posting the solution you found. It will help others in the same situation.

When there's a cookie problem on one PC but not on another, and it's solved by changing the expiry period, then it's almost certainly down to the time / date / timezone being wrong on one PC. The PC uses the clock, date and timezone to decide when to delete the cookie. If they're wrongly set then it can decide that the cookie needs deleting immediately.

                      Going bald - Customer Login

Hi - I have been having this problem all morning and still cannot fix it - I have tried Web - Configure expiry
My problem is with Customer Accounts when they try to login - we have discounts on these accounts. I still get the error message both in IE and Firefox.

I set up a dummy account if anyone would like to try -
                      Username = trial Password = 123

                      http://www.tranquilpc-shop.co.uk

I would really appreciate some help if anyone could give it to me.

Not working for me, won't login, flags some security issue regarding cookies. Your login page also flags the unsecure warning, i expect you need to change an image or two to be relatively linked.

That is because of the split SSL - SSL is on a separate domain so login goes to SSL the browser cannot find the cookie.

                            Thanks Louise and Lee...
The problem has only just occurred this morning - the customer login had been working perfectly up till then.
The only thing different I updated the version of Actinic from 8.1 to 8.3.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info in this thread. Changing 'Web | Configure Expiry Periods' to 24 solved a problem one of our customers was having with our shop cookies and IE8 on his system.

I should also note that I'm using Actinic version 8.
