O' I wish I would have read all this before I ordered V9 and a paid a designer to do the changeover.
Now my site is out of order and I am back at V7.
I can accept software has bugs but this has an infestation which we are all paying to help solve.
Was I naive to think I was purchasing the completed article surely if it is a upgraded version of a previous package you would expect it to have some advantage....so far it has been far too slow for me to spend time trying to find an advantage.
Take it off the market until it really is an upgrade that can be used out of the box.....

There is a FREE 30 day trial on their software, not going to help you at the moment i agree, but always good to try things yourself and gauge other people's feelings before you dive in for the future.

You are probably correct but I have been using V7 for the last 3 years and trusted Actinic also I did download it and played around with it which is why I came to order it but it is not like an ugrade of Excel or word where you just install it I had to employ the services of a designer.
Again I mistakenly assumed that the designer would be informed by Actinic to any issues with V9 but she tells me Actinic have kept it quiet.
O well onwards and backwards I am sure I will not lose on this.

        Cheers for the comment.

I understand your frustrations i really do, all i can say from a designer point of view is that we are nothing like as informed as clients think we are. We are treated the same as you as a customer. Anything i know about this software is what i have read in here, there is no private cascade of problems or bugs at all, principally because we are customers just like you. Fingers crossed that 9.0.3 is a hit and sorts this all out.

            Hmmmmm beta testing

i noticed a comment or two here and unfortunately i missed the mentioned threads, but it was heavly debated that actinic could look towards looking after these people in some way back when v8 was released but they decided to bury there heads in the sand again. I guess this is why not as much was found on V9 as some people were less than happy to continue.

I found a number of issues and some are still in the v9.01, ok current relaese is v9.02 and i really could not be bothered to upgrade as i now fear the problems each upgrade leads to. I dont have the time to keep fixing things that should work.

            The biggest fear i have

Actinic will ceast to exist in a couple of years or they will finally dump the access DB move to sql and take the plugin root.

Access is dead - wake up actinic please

Problems with V9 have been highlighted on the forum ever since its release and any designer worth thier salt would know about them even though as Lee says we are kept as much in the dark about the development of the software as you are.

I Have not made a good move here, I have not heard 1 good word about V9 or Actinic in general since I started moving away from V7.
I am still stuck without a working website and the shine has been taken off the possible future use of V9.
I asked some questions of Chris Dicken but you only get "fluffy" answers which is not clever and it would seem Actinic no nothing about their customers be that designers or users and they should realise that a companies strategy should be based around its customers needs.
They obviously do not understand their customers needs and take the route of least resistance each time whilst probably listening to the users who are trying to sound like they know a thing or 2 but again it is "Emporers New Clothes".
Well maybe it will prevent some other poor sould being left with a cheap box full of expensive slow and half baked software.....Tell me if I am wrong!

I saw your post yesterday about should i spend the day reverting to v7 or wait for actinic.

My reaction was to hit the keyboard and say revert, as actinic probably won't get v9 fixed for you very rapidly, but CD intervened and said give us a bit of time and hey presto 9.02 popped up yesterday.

Presumably 9.0.2 hasn't done it for you?

If this were me i'd have reverted to 7 several days ago. Get your site up and revisit 9 in a few months time.

                        Chris

I understand your frustrations, and as one who had problems with the sinc server issue I have had my own

                        BUT

V9 is still a great system even with its faults, be super when it gets to the reliability of V8.5, Look at the bright side if the 9.0.3 is as good as we are told in fixing things then the end of the tunnel is very near

IF all the other Mega Companies **** up on their new versions why do we expect a small company like Actinic to fair much better, we all cock up now and again frustratingly so but life goes on.

Many experienced designers say never upgrade until a new program has been out for 6-12 months, we are the people who don't listen to this great advice and rush in accepting the risk, then moan like hell when a problem is found.

At least we have this forum which is in itself a great reason to buy the software

Now gets off his high horse and melts into background and obscurity

I'd like to stick my head above the parapet and admit the following:

I haven't had any issues with v9 whatsoever.

Phew. Glad to get that off my chest.

Head above parapet time for me too, we've been running it since the beta was released as V9.0. We run Multi User and Multi site and (touch wood) haven't really had any issues that haveen't been quickly resolved on this forum. The upgrade from V8 was painless

I have upgraded a few sites from V8 and as you say they are working well. The problems seem to be comming as far as I am concerned from new V9 sites working with trial software, snapshots and V7 users who are seeing the same issues that V7 users saw with V8 when it was released.

Lets see what .03 brings and if the single page upload works then it will be a huge step forward.

The 'UPGRADE' from V7 to V8 was too painful to recall or ever go through again!. But once it was working V8 was significantly better than V7 and worth the pain. V9 was difficult to justify paying £1,000 for as an upgrade and that is really my only gripe at the moment
