I thought the quick root would be paypal pro, but its nothing but headache.
you either run the whole site is SSL withfasthosts and lose SEO or you move host to one who will allow SSL in checkout only

How about simply buying your own SSL cert (they are £50 ish a year which is probably cheaper then the shared SSL in the first place)
As for using SSL not simply being enough to pass PCI compliance that is true but what people fail to mention is that passing PCI compliance is not anywhere near as hard and certainly not as expensive as many would have you think (it's not as if play and amazon etc etc will all suddenly be using PSP's such as ProTX, Paypal, Worldpay etc and not accepting credit cards) and anyone claiming SSL is dead is being misleading to say the least as it is already a security requirement for some (http://www.streamline.worldpay.com/s...i/moi7002.html albeit ignored by some who choose to do so and wrongly advise accordingly) to even take customer details such as name, address, what they have purchased and how much the puchase value etc.
According to our Streamline contact this is now a requirement that they insist on and they also told us that it will soon become part of the data protection scheme that online shops will be required to use secure encryption for ALL customers personal details so the easy answer is regardless of how you accept payment purchase an SSL, secure up and protect your customers details throughout checkout.

I didn't want to buy a SSL certificate and host my own server. Its too expensive when there are other alternatives.
I've now registered with NOCHEX and will use these until my Barclay Card application is through.
At least with NOCHEX they answer the phone and are in the UK.
Paypal's customer service is unbelievable... I’d rather set myself on fire than ring them again.
