export design text changes to "catalog client"

    Hi All,
Anyone know away around this problem.

I have a client using actinic "catalog client" and I want to send a partial snaphot so they can continue to make changes to the list of products without my having to synchronize my copy of the site.

Some of the changes include design text changes so dropdown of psps changes to radio buttons etc.

Is there anyway I can do this without having them sending me a full snapshot each time before I make the changes, as it's proving a right pain in the a*se

    regards

This was indeed a Royal pain in v8 for designers and they modified the way the design snapshot worked in v9 as it never really worked as anyone had hoped (don't get Jo started on the subject - one of her pet hates)

Hierarchical exports and imports are probably your best bet for them just editing products and sending you their lists of products. They'll also need to include the product images they use separately though.

          arse!

          Thanks for confirming though.

Would it be possible in v9 then? I have just left alone until needs must but if it does and there are no major bugs like v8 on launch then I'd make the move.

          Cheers

on seconds thoughts, too many associated products and custom settings, I think I'll leave .csv alone.

              thanks though

The design snaphot has been redesigned for v9 but I've reported bugs in it which should be fixed in 0.3 hopefully as it looks much better than the v8 system.

You dance with the Devil with the hierarchical exports / imports

will we be able to use PSD in the manner i always assumed it was there for? ie create a brand new site for a client (layouts, variables and so on) and then import it on top of a client site and the import brings in all design changes and DB changes affected by new work, but leaves orders, product info and stock control intact?

from what I have seen it should do as you say jo. It looks like you just create the design snapshot import it and it updates all the design bits. Far simpler than the v8 system. Cd may tell us more or correct me if its not going to work that way.

Thats the theory - you can also highlight what has been changed from default so only export the relevant layouts etc - not yet tried in full anger as all v9 work has been upgrades and newly launched so no additions or tweaks as yet - the procedure looks sound enough.

its another hidden improvement similar in importance to the single page update. If it works it will be another huge leap forward.

There are two types of design snapshot in v9

'Design | Export Design Snapshot' - this is brand new in v9 and essentially takes all the library contents, referenced images, colours and site options settings from one site to another and leaves everything else alone.

'Design | Export Specific Design Elements' - this is the v9-equivalent of the v8's 'Export Partial Site Design'. It works like the v8 feature (in that you can choose the specific library elements you want to include in the snapshot) but it also includes a feature to just include all new and customised elements in the snapshot. Like v8, this just does library elements, and nothing else.
