Product choice linking

Hi Lee, can I pick your brains some more,
support want me to FTP my site, I don't know how to do this but I am sure it is quicker than doing the 'mailbigfile.com' that took 2.5 hours last time. Would you be kind enough to walk me through the FTP procedure as support seem reluctant to do so? if you can't give me instructions thats fine. it is obviously complicated.

They should be giving you the ftp details and telling you where to put the file, you just have to connect to those settings and send the file. I always use dreamweaver myself, but i think filezilla is one banded around as a good and free ftp software. I know very little on FTP software.

Im wondering if your layout has just been trashed and the info is there its just not showing, possibly try a standard unchanged product layout just to see? Take 10 mins and read the snapshot tutorial on my site, trust me you need to.

Just so i understand what you are saying - you are suggesting changing the layout to a standard unchanged layout ? how is that different to what I am using? - do you mean in the design themes? - sorry don't follow how to do this.

Read the snapshot stuff it is good, but I do do that, not as often as I should and I do have a range of old snapshots, just heartbroken at all the hours I have spent lately adding stuff and playing, also was really happy with new layout as was finally getting it linked with EPOS, now very frustrated. GRRR

Sally, i do not know what changes you have done or how you have done them. I was just saying that if you have made some changes to the product layout for example, maybe you did them wrong and it is not showing as you have trashed the layout, not because actinic is being a naughty little girl.

If you select a standard product layout that has been unchanged you can confirm this in about 30 seconds. Just change back after tried. Nowt to do with theme changes, relax and breathe.

I have a file address but when I go there it says
This is the placeholder for domain support.actinic.co.uk. If you see this page after uploading site content you probably have not replaced the index.html file.

I assume i should be uloading to it, but have no idea how I need another program in order to do this? Filezilla?

I think that is what it is called yes, but there are loads out there i expect. You just want an ftp client, inside you put the settings actinic have provided. You can then send a file as you wish.

No I have madee no major changes to product layout, it was a section list layout change, so that the undersections were not showing in the side bar, nothing that should have affected my products globally

but now basically my components will function independently but will not work with any choices or attributes, although the choices and attributes will work together.

have to get support to look at it all but am reluctant to reinstate old site, i was so happy with the new one, prob doesn't look much different to customer though so may go for it until I get this sorted.

OK shut down and rebooted (twice I think) suddenly I can create choices attributes etc again! however all old data remains in the ether, so all fabrics (approx 900) that previously had choices attached - many with independent pricing / custom tax are now stuffed.

I am wondering of this is to do with the fact that for the first time a couple of days ago I managed to establish an epos link and set the stock control on EPOS. I don't know if it is relevant or not but seems like the only thing I have done that affects the products globally.

Anyone any thoughts?

I amabout to set to and rebuild all the choices, but worried whole lot will vanish again as I don't understand how or what has hapened here.

OK, about to throw computer out of window.

I have finally got choices and attributes thing to work, carefully stepped through everything that it told me to do. Worked on 2 products in 2 different ways, in one I assigned the choices to hidden products, in the other I just filled in the prices in the permutations tabs.

Uploaded nd checked

With the choice linked to a hidden product I get the error message re cookies
may be soluable but very off putting for customers

wit choice with filled in permutations I get error message 'sorry the combination you have ordered is not available'

actually just tried again and cookie message has vanished now both 'items say combination not available.'

someone give me a clue as to what I am doing wrong here

Just an update, it turns out it is a known bug in V8, that products that are dragged and dropped can lose components / attributes .

I was moving whole sections around when I re-organisd the look of the side bar and apparently managed to wipe out all my components and attributes on approx 900 products, without even realising it. I guess I should have noticed that they had all lost their little plus signs, but I was so excited that I was finally getting stuff arranged in the way I wanted it (4 years on!) that I was not paying enough attention to the detail.

So now I must rebuild all those products, have upgraded the site, which in theory should make it better but have hit some issues ith the upgrade too.
However nothing can rain on my parade today because my son got a First in his Physics degree and I am proud as punch and don't care who knows it!

Going to spend the night sorting out products, ho hum!

Im using standard product layouts for and V9 - I know this is a v8 thread but did not see much point in opening a new one, well unless someone can tell me they are completely different and i should.

I did what the actinic warning message told me to, and yes i know i could not do it that way, i did it to makes sure things were still the same in v9

would it be worth mentioning this is a v9.0.1 site that wont import into 2 of the 3 pc's i use for testing v9.0.3 on

Darren...in V9, are you using the 'product options' tab to create the component or attributes etc when setting up the product?
