    Discounts

I was hoping this feature was going to be in the new version 9 but I cannot see it.

I have 5,000 products which we sell as singles (or mutible of) and
we also sell them as cases. The case size can vary from product from product.

    So for example
    aduki bean 1kg £1.00
    case of 12 x 1kg take 6.5% discount off

So I want a trigger that for EVERY 12 sold of that ONE product a discount is given. Also to bear in mind that the customer may buy a case of this and that etc.

The above example needs to apply to all 5,000 products which have case sizes range from 4 upwards.

I also do not want lots of options with each product I want to keep that clean.

The good thing is I will be importing the data as new not a import from v8 which gives me the chance to clean up the old data, and if I can do the above in that spreadsheet for importing that would help.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,

I can see three options for this:

    Option 1:
    - create a product group for each product and then a discount for each product

A lot of work and with 5,000 products this could cause some issues (ie it may be slow in working out which discount to apply - not tested with this amount of discounts). Can't be imported.

    Option 2:
    - have a component with two choices on each product - 'item' and 'case of x' and set the prices in the 'permutations' tab of the component. Can be imported via a hierarchical import file. The quantity field would then be for how many items or cases required. Stock monitoring would be tricky this way as it would see a case as one item rather than say, 12.

    Option 3:
    - use 'Quantity based pricing' (available in the 'Business' software), where you can set a price per item depending on how many are bought ('Prices' tab of a product). Can be imported via a hierarchical import.

    I hope this helps.

Option 1 seems a no no.

Option 2 seems to be an answer as I am not worried about stock control.
But I cannot seem to get the choices working via the 'permutations' tab. Cannot get the choices showing to choose the prices etc.

Option 3 is one I looked at but as far as I can tell if the case is 12 they will get a discount for any amount over 12 not each 12.

So Option 2 seems to be the answer if I can get it to work.
But don't like the idea of doing a hierarchical import as that looks so complex.

      Any other ideas?

      Thanks
      John

Put your own prices in on option 2, unless you are linking to hidden products setup specifically for this part. Check your component layout options to see various choices you have to show the prices in the list.

On the 'permutations' tab you need to click the 'Fill List' button. This will put your choices into the grid, where you can enter the prices. Make sure that the 'Pricing Model' is set to 'Sum of Components Prices' on the 'general' tab of the product details too.

Option 3 is one I looked at but as far as I can tell if the case is 12 they will get a discount for any amount over 12 not each 12
Set a row for min of 12 at the discounted price, then add another row for a min of 13 which will go back to the normal price. After that add another row for a min of 24 at the discounted price and then another row for min of 25 at the normal price. You would have to do this up to the maximum number of cases that you think a customer would buy but it would work. You may then have to edit the layout that shows the quantity pricing structure on the website but that shouldn't be too hard.

            Hi
I am sorry but I am getting completely lost here.
I get a grid but it shows 'any chioces' under both columns.
I cannot enter the prices for each selection.

When I think I am getting close the program crashes.

Is it posible for a Small file emailed to me that I can see for myself what settings need to be there?

It sounds like you have two attributes each with one choice on them. You should have one attribute with two choices. See the attached image.

                Hi
                Thanks
                I missed a step.
Now working, it just looks messy on the page.
Guess I will need to edit the layouts to make it appear where I want.

Unless I can work it out in the meanwhile at the moment I have a flat file import can I still do the above in that if not how to I create a hierarchical from that?

                Thanks

I'm afraid that choices can only be added via a hierarchical import file. I suggest you create one and then export your catalog (File | Export) to see how they fit. They are a bit complicated and can take a little while to get your head around.
