Has anyone found a way to offer discount codes in Catalog?

Just wondering if anyone found a way around not being able to generate coupon codes with Catalog?

Please don't suggest upgrading, only replies relevant to the information i want please!

    I have found this:

    http://www.smartepos.co.uk/ecommerce...ty_scheme.html

but don't know when it was last available or if it ever will be again plus i'm guessing it will be pricey, does anyone have any experience with this add on from when it was available before?

    I found this:

    http://renegademinds.com/Products/Pa...0/Default.aspx

but i don't think it's compatible with actinic products.

Then there are websites like these:

    http://www.couponclipz.com/manual.php

    and

    http://www.thepaypalcoupon.com/join.php

for people using Paypal to take payments (which i do) but these are fiddly and unprofessional looking and you can't link these up directly with your website.

In Paypal there is a section in profile>financial information>gifts and discounts where it looks like you should be able to create discount codes and when i rang Paypal to inquire whether there was any way you could create discount codes for Paypal they said to go to this section but couldn't advise me where to go from there but that is was possible without creating and paying for a gift voucher yourself. Handy. So has anyone found a way to do discounts via Paypal or any other payment facility?

    Thanks

    Rhian

Ok i'm not going to answer as it is obvious from your post that you know what the answer is.

It is always true that a cheap add on proves more expensive in the long run, a manual process will cost more in time to administer

I am 100% sure that upgrading is your only sensible option as this area has been exhausted before and there is no sensible way round it.

There is no way to do this, I should know after having been with Actinic support for 4 years. Upgrading is the only option you have, you may not want to hear it but thats the fact.

I didn't feel i was wasting my time, i simply pointed out that there isn't a solution apart from upgrading, which others corroborate.

It is better to get the correct answer, even if it isn't what you want to hear. Otherwise you could get replies that will lead you up the garden path and waste more time and money than the cost of upgrading.

Now you've forced me into uttering the word you don't want to hear UPGRADE

Why not just offer to ship a free gift to those who have a 'coupon code' that they have received from somewhere. You can then make up the codes yourself and track them manually. You can then change one of the user defined boxes in the checkout to accept the code so it is saved with the order.

I'd be really interested to hear how you get on with upgrading

                      Thanks for everyone's replies.

I really can't justify paying for the upgrade with how much business i predict using coupons will generate right now.

                        Hello there Rhimix,

Just to say that we were lucky in that our product range is so small (6 lines) that we simply created special prices for, say, 1 of item A, 3 of item A, 6 of item A etc. Each line therefore has a seperate product for these.

I did look at trying to do discounts in Actinic 7 and then 8 but was not able to offer a similar pricing model to our telephone business.
