    Paypal Express Checkout

    Hi,

I have a couple of problems with paypal express checkout,
    1) When a new customer visits, and adds products to the cart the shipping is not added until the next screen, when they have entered their country, but the checkout with paypal logo appears and when clicked it says the cart is empty, although it is not. If the customer goes far enough through the checkout process and the shipping is calculated then the checkout with paypal works ok.

    2) Although the paypal express checkout is set up to charge cards automatically, it doesn't. It just pre-authorises them. I have been in touch with Actinic support, and they say I must have changed something, I am not aware of changing anything to affect this, but it is possible, my question is has anybody else got it working correctly. If so then it must be something I did.

    many thanks
    Ian

    Hi,

I haven't found any previous reports of these problems.

1 - does it work if you have 'Request Location Information Early' (Business Settings | Ordering tab - you have to have your shopping mode set to 'quantity on confirmation page' for this to become available)?

2 - if you have 'charge transactions immediately' set in the 'Business Settings | Payment & Security | Paypal Express | Configure Method' window, can you try replacing 'OCCPaypalNVPTemplate.pl' in your 'site folder\CommonOCC' folder with the one in 'c:\program files\actinic v9\OCCUpgrade\CommonOCC'. Refresh the site and see if it still happens.

      Hello Tracy,

Thankyou for your reply, I have changed to request location information early and it still shows the Paypal express checkout screen on the add to cart confirmation screen and it will not work because until you have pressed confirm the cart is empty so there is an error. I have now removed the paypal button from the add to cart confirmation screen in the design. Now customers can only cancel or confirm. Once they have confirmed then in the later screens the paypal button works. So it is now fixed, thankyou.

I replaced the file as suggested to fix the other problem and will post when I know if it has worked.

      Thankyou for your help.

I have found that the above did not fix the problem, it still says that the basket is empty if you try to checkout with paypal too early.

You are welcome to try it at www.pewter-gifts.co.uk

This looks like a problem with using Split SSL. When doing it this way, two cookies are created on the customer's pc one for 'http://www.pewter-gifts.co.uk' (non-secure) and one for 'https://secure128bit.co.uk' (secure) so that the cart can be read in secure and non-secure modes. The cookie for https isn't created until you actually go through to checkout, so if you click to use Paypal express before getting into checkout you get the error about the basket being empty because there is no secure cookie created yet.

I need to check with development if there is a way around this other than to turn off SSL in checkout. Can you confirm if you are just using Paypal Express or Paypal Pro?

              paypal express

i had paypal ipn running on my website, and since i installed express checkout it stopped working. it seems that the modules work fine on their own, but not together.
now i'm back to paypal ipn only.

                Hi Ian,

The cookie doesn't get transferred to https until the bounce to checkout and this isn't happening with the 'paypal express' option. If you don't require SSL to be set on the site then I would suggest that you switch the site to be non-ssl while we investigate this issue. If you only use Paypal or any other Payment Service Provider, then this should be fine, otherwise, you would need to put your whole site in SSL.

I have switched the site to non SSL, and copied the file you mentioned accross, I am still having to capture the funds manually in paypal, although actinic is set to capture automatically, do you have any ideas on that side of things, do you know if it is just a problem for me or if other sites have the problem?

I haven't seen this reported before. I have asked development for any ideas and will post when I hear back from them.

                      Hi,

Could you also try replacing 'OCCPaypalPro.pl' from the same place as the previous script mentioned as this also contains code for PayPal Express.

Can I get a snapshot from you please? If it's less than 12MB then please email it to me otherwise please upload it somewhere and send me a link to it (tgsupport [@] actinic [dot] co [dot] uk).
