    search by variable

You can search on variables and narrow down the search results by combinations of search (variables).

For example - create 2 new variables called:

    Item & Size

The Item variable you might manuall or create a choice list for items like : Mattresses, Beds, Headboards and Bed Frames.

The Size variable you would do the same again as allow manual entry or create a choice list for all of the different sizes you offer.

(Choice is yours whether you enable input of choices at section or product level etc).

Enable both variables as being searchable and within the Business Settings | Search Options, add them as custom search variables.

Then, populate the choices answers on each product or section as you see fit to have some results to pull from.

Update the site and then go to your standard search page and you will then see the 2 new variables with options listed.

Select Mattresses and a size and click search with nothing else enabled and it should just show those results you want. You can then use the URL it produced in your browser to produce the URL for your size links, which would then only show the mattresses at the size you want.
I've added extra variables to search on using the above post from v8. But I am wondering if the extra variables can be imported using a flat file import or will only the hierarchical work?

Product data will be imported regularly overwritting the existing data, therefore getting these fields into the import is important

You can externally link to product scoped CVs but you can no longer use a flat file to import them since the db structure changed in v8.

We do daily imports with updates of custom variables (RRP, Saving etc). Use a hierarchical import and just add a column at the beginning of your flat file with 'Header:Product' in the first cell and 'Product' all the way down the rest of the first column. As long as you include 'ProductReference' it'll work...

(We stopped using linked data as it was soooooo slow...)
