    Taking Site Offline

I am a very new user. Sorry to ask such a basic question but how do I take my site offline whilst doing some work on it as it has errors.

    I am using Actinic v9

    Thanks

depends how far you want to go, to suspend ordering then do this under business settings, ordering, change the allowed to suspend

to remove your site, ftp to your account and delete the files, this is a bit extreme and caution would be advised when deletign from the server

Best leave the pages up but disable ordering at least that way your site will still be indexed.

Thanks for the quick reply - I do not want the site to be viewable as I seem to have Made an error and whilst im trying to fix it I do not want people to see it- it looks rubbish!!!!

But deleting files seems a bit extreme

Then perhaps replace the index.html file in the root directory with a simple one made yourself in any html editor.

Why not just delete the pages you don't want in actinic and then upload the new version

It's important to keep at least your home page up and running to catch the search engines

or just click the hide section in actinic, then upload - mind i am not sure if this still leaves the file there, but the pages will not appear in the sitemap or secion lists

Personally i'd remove all pages except for the index page

if the other pages have errors you don't want them indexed by SE's nor do you want people on the site ordering
