Not a fan of Fragments

Just started using Actinic and had a more in-depth play last night. I'm not a fan of these Fragments that appear everywhere, for instance on my front page. So I deleted the fragment and hard-coded my own HTML stuff in there which looked much better. Is this likely to cause a problem with the way Actinic functions and should I stick to using these Fragments, or is this the whole point of editing it as such?

Fragments are useful if you want to allow your client to easily change text.

I think as I would be doing the main editing then it wouldn't be a problem. Is that it's main function? To make it easier for all to change? For instance the Fragement I was changing I wanted to text wrap a picture on the right at the top, then on the left halfway down. All I saw in Actinic was a WYSIWYG text box to type text into?

Please bare in mind my very limited experience in this!

You can create your own fragment layouts that will contain the fragment text. By doing so you then have a template to work with, rather than creating bespoke layouts for each and every fragment.

You can use html within the Fragment text box to insert more images, links, etc.

Just remember that you have to use these tags: !!<<>>!!.

For example:

!!<<strong>>!!Bold!!<</strong>>!!

Fragments are very powerful .... all the central homepage content on www. cakescookiesandcraftsshop .co.uk is done via fragments.

Dont simply delete them and convince yourself they are pants.

its one of those six or one half a dozen of the other.

sometimes i create pages with formatted fragments to allow easy editting of text by the client.

othertimes i paste all my html into one big fragment

depends on how often the page wil lneed to be updated.

I've even done PHP includes to html held in txt format on the server so i can change a page without needing to touch actinic
