    Help! Max. of 32,767 items?

    Hello Community!

I've been struggling with this issue, and have done some reading and searches on the forums for answers, but cannot come up with the exact answer I need.

My cart seems to work fine, save for the fact that I seem to have a ceiling of 32767 items.

I can add quantities less than that with no problems, but the issue is that my customers REQUIRE the ability to order more than that.

We sell tags and labels, and as such, order quantities can get up into hundreds of thousands (and millions, with luck!)

Is there a way around this ceiling?

    Thanks,
    Bill

I'm not aware of any cut off regarding qty, unless your shipping tables are restricting you?

Could you not use duplicate products of varying qty?

    10 off, 100 off, 1000 off, 5000 off, etc?

I would imagine that not many, if any, customers would by 1s or 2s, so force their hand with a minimum order qty.

Package your products into sensible amounts, so they can order 3,000 labels as one product i.e. set packages containing set sizes and they are then buying 1 product which is a pack of 3,000 labels for instance.

I can't see there being an easy fix for this - it will probably involve perl script modifications - the reports quantity fields may also not show correctly.

I would recommend you create additional products that are in multiples of the units - ie 1 off 1000 units, 1 off 10000 units etc. and use these as choices for the original product.

Duncan/Lee, I was wondering whether he should make several versions of the same product, but increase the quanties, say:
                    • 10
                    • 50
                    • 100
                    • 500
                    • 1000
                    • etc

                    What do you reckon?

This conundrum is a bit like buying Heinz Baked Beans. When you go to the supermarket, do you look for 2,500 beans in a red sauce or do you look for one tin containing 2,500 beans in red sauce.

Ask yourself this, if a customer can order 4,613 of a product, why would they do that, surely the whole world would select the nearest bulk buy to that amount. Also on receiving that order, who as a site owner wants to count them out. Which leads me on to my final point, if you do not count them out and have them packaged into certain numbers, then your hard work is already done, simply sell in those pre-packaged values.

Providing choice is one thing, if you allow specific single unpackaged amounts to be ordered, it just sounds like a nightmare to me.

NB: Ignore the above advice if it is diamonds or gold ingots you are selling.

Could you not give choices such as:

                        1 Million
                        100000
                        10000
                        1000
                        100
                        10
                        and then singles

just like the banks do when issuing cheques, so then the customer could order 3 x 10000 plus 4 x 1000 plus 7 x100 and 5 singles giving 34705

that seems not only logical, but also beneficial - so it is what i have done!

                          Thanks again,

This does raise the question of why Actinic is setting this limit, and what else does it affect. Clearly a signed two byte integer (+/-32767) is being used somewhere, however the Access database itself looks to be using four byte integers allowing a much larger range, so is this limit a throwback to earlier versions that has never been updated?
