    xp udate to sp3 hell

    Hello,

Since updating to the service pack 3, after a clean reinstall of this pseudo OS, Actinic takes around 2 minutes, if not more, to load, any apply change takes an equally long time. Both operations eat up 100% CPU. Anyone experienced this problem?

Installed SP3 when it came out, no problems since.

Same here. All my systems are SP3 and I see no performance hit at all.

Jeez... oook... that means I screwed up something.

Is there a linux version cooking? XP's becoming my fallback OS.

some people have problems with this, some have serious problems, some wreck there pc.

im guessing some of this is down to driver issues and other software installed on there systems.

You only need to take a trawl through MS forums to see people complaining, but it must be virtually impossible to cater for every system and every piece of software ever written for it.

not for actinic, but with all the new small laptops coming on to the market ie the eeepc, webbook etc it does seem that XP is going to be extended as vista will not load on to these

not sure if this helps, but SP3 installed fine on my Intel powered laptop with Actinic showing no difference in use or upload. However SP3 crashed my Athlon based dual core main machine, losing drivers all over the place and I had to spend several hours reinstalling things just to get back to where I started. Actinic still isn't so happy here, taking longer to generate pages and upload, though not a massive difference.
Checking forums around the web it does seem that Athlon based machines aren't so happy with the upgrade generally, if yours is an Athlon processor then perhaps the problem lies there?

Most likely a driver issue for something installed .. my video driver needed updating when SP3 refused to boot in normal mode... worth checking all your components have the latest drivers.

One more thing - did you install from download or did u order the CD? If u downloaded, maybe there was an issue there?

We got the CD, simply because it was easier to stick it in the drives of all our PCs and laptops than fiddle around with downloading onto each machine.

The CD is nothing more than a tea coaster after the first interim upgrade, so you need to do it sometime. A memory stick is a better idea, more reliable than a CD and easy to use.
