    Import section by section

Hopefully I'm not doubling up, but have looked through quite a lot of the forum.... Is there a way to literally copy a section or product from my existing shop in V7 and import it into my new layout in V9, and then sort out the layout for each section as one goes.... obviously having the two programs open on the same machine and ctrl/c, ctrl/v would be ideal!

Why not just import a v7 snapshot into V9 and take them all at once? You shouldn't be looking to style sections on an individual basis, that is the whole idea of actinic and its template based system that does it all for you.

I'm not familar with V7, but does it have an export facilty:

      File | Export

You could select to Export your Catalog and then Import the File into V9...

HOWEVER!!! I do not no how V9 will react to you V7 Export Perhaps someone else could confirm??? Lee?

Bottom line... worried what it will do to all the work I've already done on V9! Also don't want to bring across all the rubbish that I want to leave behind...

Won't a snapshot bring across layouts and all v7 stuff etc...
Is exporting a hierarchical catalog and importing that better?

It appears on the surface that you are working completely arse upwards, why would you design v9 and then bring in the products, why not get all products into v9, then design? As you bring v7 into v9 it will do the necessary upgrades for you. As to the look, that is less important as that is usually the area you are just about to attack and sort out anyway.

For your situation, I suspect that a hierarchical is probably best now as you suggest, however you may also find that a design snapshot of V9 imported over the top of a v7 upgraded site will do the same. Whatever you do, make sure you snapshot before you try anything. If you have designer or multisite then you can try a number of different scenarios, The design snapshot is probably your best.

Thanks Lee, I have multisite so will try a few out...

My v7 is live and being updated every day with section and products etc, how would it work to bring v7 into v9 and then have the time to redesign the layout? it would be out of date within a few hours... unless I'm missing something...

I would suggest that you don't add any more info to the site whilst you are trying to switch.

Spend some time dealing with the switch. Once you're happy it looks, feels and more importantly functions. Start adding your new sections and products...

              IMO

Ah well that's easy then, multisite to the rescue. Finish your v9 design, then license a brand new site and import a v7 snapshot into it, forget what it looks like, this is just to get the products into both v9 and upgraded. You can then grab all or part of the sections, copy them and then open up the new v9 site and paste them. Multisite allows copy paste between sites.

This multisite, is he some sort of Actinic Super Hero? What light do I have to shine into the evening sky if I need his help?

It has certainly rescued me from a few dark actinic dungeons at times, what the hell people do with catalog when their site will not open I do not know. **shivers and shudders**

Do you need a certain haircut to use this version?

Absolutely - bald or at least thinning on top or at the sides certainly reduces drag when soaring at altitude.
