    copy_of_duplicate_product.html page filename

    Hi
I am probably missing something very basic but I noticed that when generating page filenames of duplicate products Actinic just sticks copy_of_ in front of the 'parent product' page filename. Is this how it is supposed to work and what is the accepted/recommended method of dealing with this when it come to XML sitemaps? removing the reference perhaps? I don't imagine the big G is overly impressed with this sort of naming convention...
The site in question is http://theprettydresscompany.com and a duplicate is 'million dollar baby black pencil dress' within the pencil dress section..

i manually overwrite all copy-of page names, its on one of the tabs of the dialog box

This has been a long standing failure in actinic IMO, even more so when it is supposedly one of the best at SEO, it clearly shouldn't allow this to happen. The only things you can do are to never copy-paste sections or if you do, make sure you manually control the info on each of the 3 tabs. There has been some literally horrific page names seen on the forum, I think the record was 'copy_of' being seen 16 times in one URL before the actual page name appeared.

Thanks for that Jo - I had looked for something like that but I hadn't twigged it's actually at the section/sub-section level that the filename was generated.

It does not copy meta descriptions, keywords and page titles, perhaps if SPP's become part of actinic as standard then this might all get fixed.

it doesn't just happen with copy and paste actually. I created a hidden section in my catalog the other day (I have several) and just called it 'hidden'
However,as I'd already got a section with that name, it the filename became 'copy_of_hidden.HTML'
It's definitely something to watch out for even when you're creating sections without copying

When you copy and paste within the name Section, Sub-Section you're told that this "Section already exists ya da ya da ya da" and prompted to input a new Section Title, which is also used for the filename.

Would it be that difficult to get actinic to give this prompt every time a copy and paste was used?

I agree. It currently only notifies of sections with the same name within the same section but it definitely ought to broaden that to warn of potential 'copy' filenames to avoid this whole issue. That way they can be renamed immediately.

replacing copy_of_ to a simply numeric value at the end like section_1.html

                  just a thought

The whole 3 tab idea but only having to visit the first one to setup a section is what's wrong IMO. I mentioned some time ago that they should not allow empty fields to exist in this area and the tabs should be mandatory to visit, it's a fundamental basic operation to set sections up and I only see (at the very best) 1 client in 10 who gets it right. I even write a tutorial explaining what actinic allows you to do and what you should actually be doing, it's that common a problem.

Could not agree more, i have more than once forgotten to populate some of the fields.

Page Title is the REALLY easy one to forget and it's so important!

What annoys me about creating new sections is that I have to create and 'apply' it before I can go in and change the layout. THAT gripes me as it adds time to creating SPP listing pages (ie sections) which inevitably have a different layout to the parent sections

                        <end rant>

Make your life easy and have the same layout throughout, whether it be at spp level or not. You do like to make things difficult bumpsy.

Hierarchical Import would be quicker if you have a few to do at once.

can't. I have loads of 'normal' section links (for subsections) but my SPPs sit under section links with price.
                              It aint that easy
