Use Windows Search to search your SiteHTML folder for e.g. "Bell_Howell_Toner_Cartridges.html". That should throw up the pages containing it.

For your Titles - you could add some code into your TITLE area like (NB pseudo code below - use a Condition)

It looks like the error pages are being linked to from pages in your /directory/ folder. for example:

get yourself a copy of Xenu linksleuth and run it on your website.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do with these pages? There seems to be no content and they're outside of the acatalog directory. Are you spamming?

looks like you are changing the name of the pages between various uploads.
Google has page-name.html in its cache, and then you change it to page-name2.html
end result is that if people click on page-name1.html before google re-indexes itself, you generate a 404 - page not found.

you need to investigat the use of the htaccess file and then start adding entries in there to tell google that the page has permantly neem removed, or its been re-directed to page-name2.html

99% of hosting companies allow you to place htaccess file at the root of your website.

one other problem is that when you re-name the web pages, its important to get rid of that page on you website this way you are guaranteed its no longer available to anyone.

I also assume you have a personalised webpage that is displayed whenever a 404 is generated - that page should say "whoops that should happen" and then allow them to click on a link to the home page

Finding and Rectifying HTML Errors

Norman, Mike and Kevin,

Many thanks for your advice which has now allowed me to find the html errors (I seem to have lots of them), but now I can work thorough and rectify them - Thanks. PS: the directory folder was set up by the seo company we employed that were going to develop (white hat) reciprocal links for our different products on our site.

If I could be so bold there is just one other error that I thought I could solve but my efforts have not managed to indentify where I can solve this issue. On our web site www.paragon-matrix.com we have some top tabs (ie: ink, toner, media etc) that take you to the different sections of our site. I have changed some of these sections urls (to be more keyword friendly) for example changing the ink section ulr from \acatalog\ink-cartridges.html to \acatalog\discount-ink-cartridges.html.
It would seem that these tab profiles are held in an �includes� folder in the site 1 directory of actinic. (a part shown below)ie; hardware_menue.html

I have changed the tab uls in the different files outlined above from for example, /acatalog/ink-catridges.html to discount-ink-cartridges.html on the ink tab and from /acatalog/portable-memory.html to /acatalog/usb-flash-drives.html on the memory tab. This action in the includes folder seems to change the tab url settings on home page but does not change the tab url settings on the internal pages ie http://www.paragon-matrix.com/acatal...artridges.html clicking the ink tab on this page takes you to the old url ink-catridges.html (that has now been deleted). I had removed my acatalog for my server and reinstalled the acatalog directory but it has made no difference.

It seems to me that there must be another place where I need to change the url settings for these tabs for the sites internal pages? � Any ideas.

Hi Phil, it has to be down to the way your desgner (or SEO company) has implemented the tabs. They shouldn't have needed to do it with includes anyway and it looks as if they've only partially implemented it's use (the ink tab link is correct in the blog section so it looks as if they haven't used the same code everywhere).

The people who did this are really the people who should fix this. Am I right in assuming that you are no longer working with your seo company?

Yes we used www.ebrandz.com for the SEO but used www.bpm-web-design.co.uk for the actinic design as they say they were/are actinic partners? Ive tried to contact them but no answer to the phone and emails bounce back - on dear! Looks like I'm on my own
