Adding a free product automatically to the basket

    Hi There,

My next challenge that my client has requested is that if a customer spends over £50 they are entitled to a free product which they would like automatically adding to their basket.

Please tell me if this is possible? if not is there a way that I can do something similar to this?

    Many thanks

You are not having much luck Angi, you can run discounts to provide free products by rewarding with the cheapest of what's added etc. but you will not get a product added automatically for you when a certain price is met. You'd probably have to illustrate the new product on the layout and tell them it will be automatically added when the order is processed.

it's a worthy wishlist request though, IMO, if it's not there already
I'm fairly sure people have asked before and you can bet they will ask again!

At last, something I know how to do that you don't. I knew it would only be a matter of time...

The Contact us link at the bottom of a page. I filled in the form expecting, if I'm honest, that I'd have to register again as a new user, but within about 10 mins I had a message from Chris saying "No problem, what do you want to change it to?".

I changed my forum username recently too. Simple job for the moderators, so it seems!

Could it be done using a discount code and relying on the customer manually adding the product themselves.

I don't suppose Actinic allows you to have a product with zero value that can only be added to the basket and proceed through checkout if the total exceeds £50. I have not looked into this myself but expect the answer to be no.

Edit: Just seen that this has been mentioned in the Wishlist forum within the last 30 minutes and the answer as expected is no.

We had a look at this and managed to implement a version of what you require, with limited functionality.

Basically, when the cart value hits the limit (i.e. £50) then a pre-defined product is added to the basket. The limit here is there is no clean way to remove free product from cart if amount drops below limit.
We did not take this development further because of this limit.

Some javascript/cookie integration to some custom perl mod would probably be the best way to perform this.
