What page in Design View is it ... ?

Hello - I'm having a problem with the layout of my new v9 catalog site. The design seems to get broken when 'add to cart' actions are performed. I was wondering if anybody could tell me what page I need to edit to correct this?

You can see the problem at www.worthydeal.co.uk. If you land there, and put something into the shopping basket, you see the next page that comes up (the one with a little summary of what has just been added with the Confirm / Checkout Now / Cancel buttons on it) is completely broken, design-wise, although still functional.

Click 'Confirm' and you see the next page is broken too in a similar way, before everything springs back to normal.

You now have 1 item in the cart.

Add another item to the cart. Click 'Confirm' again, and again you get the 'broken' page. The rest of the pages all seem to come up fine. This occurs in both IE and FF, so I don't think it's a browser compatbility issue.

The problem is I don't know what page to edit to correct this problem. All my pages in Design View (i.e. Content Page, Site Map, terms & Conditions, etc.) appear fine in the designer. I thought the offending page was the 'Add to Cart Confirmation' page (which appears fine in designer), but I don't now think this is the page that is being called by the 'add to cart' script, because I put some spurious wording in there in the inner content, uploaded this to the server, and that spurious wording does not appear. So I am wondering where in the system I need to go to find the 'broken' HTML?

Can anybody help me on this? It would be greatly appreciated, this sunny Sunday!

Your biggest clues are the areas on which you have been working lately, what have you been up to on there recently? do you have a snapshot of when things were fine (if not why not? you are playing with fire, learn now before it is too late).

Your best bet may be to go into the design|library, click the checkbox to show all amended layouts, and then go through each one reverting back to factory settings by right clicking on the layout in question and choosing that option.

You are looking at the correct page but it's possible the preview just isn't showing what the live site is (it happens )

It looks as though the cart/checkout pages might not be using the same overall layout as the rest of the site?

Check in Settings > Site Options > Layouts and check the View Cart layout etc

it all looks ok at my end. Clear your cache and make sure you are not looking at old pages. Your ssl jumps a bit

          Hi Lee -

Thanks for that very useful tip. I'm looking at the changed items now. Would you have any idea though which pieces of layout code get called when 'add to cart' functions are performed as I described in my original post?

I think the design issue is just a case of some scrap of HTML being pulled in which needs a </tr> or </table> adding - is that how the script works, it pulls in pieces of HTML from the design library?

            Mal -

Thank you so much for checking for me. That was really kind of you - everybody has been so helpful to me on this forum this morning.

I was so sure I had a problem with the site design!

Can anybody else confirm what Mal has said? - ie if you go to www.worthydeal.co.uk, and a few things something in the shopping basket, click 'Confirm' each time, the site design stays stable i.e. the header, the yellow coloured left vertical area with the shop sections, the orangey-coloured right area with the safeBuy logo, and the footers, all stay in the same place throughout?

            Thanks again everybody

It seems ok but I do notice that the cgi script pages are returned very slowly. It can a take quite a while for those pages to load.

Not stable in FF3. Left hand side is broken. It moves to the left, into white space.

                *edit*

Seems to be fixed now. What did you change?

It may be due to the slow ssl not serving the style sheet correctly. Turn the ssl off and get it working. Who is your host as they are slow

I'm seeing the same as Duncan in FF3 although it does appear fixed in IE7 now

                      [edit]
View cart page seems ok in IE7, checkout pages are still borked

actually, it seems ok when you add 2nd items to the cart (in FF3) and when you 'view cart'
It just seems to be the first add to cart that breaks.

hmmm it certainly does some odd things, 1st product one th qty confirm page its broken, but when you add it seems ok, but sometimes when you view the basket the layout is broken in places and the basket ends up halfway down the page.

As Mal said, change the script id and refresh

Hi - thanks for the ideas everyone -

By change the script ID I think you mean go into Advanced Network Setup / CGI Script ID number.

I have changed that from 1 to 2, and I am now completely refreshing the site. Fingers crossed!

The hosting by the way is 4Sure (Technoweb).
