offline order..not able to use previous order details?

I'm having problems creating a new, offline order for customers who have shopped before.
It's fine if I choose 'Never shopped before' but if I choose 'Shopped before' and enter the previous order number, it greys out the 'next' button (see attached)

Doesn't make any difference if I type in the order number directly or do a search on customer name and fill that way, I still can't get it to proceed to the next screen with the prefilled customer info. I'm having to enter it again.

I presume this isn't typical 8.5.3 behaviour? I have to admit, it's not something I do often (usually, offline orders are new customers)

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? I haven't done something silly like not ticked something in Business Settings, have I? I looked and couldn't see anything relevant.

    Cheers

    Hi Tracey

When we used 8.5.3 it was fine but we clicked searched and then entered say post code or surname and did a search and found their old details and then clicked next. For some reason (probably because custs never knew their order ref's) we only searched we didn't enter the number straight. Does it work if you search for them?

no, it doesn't. I did say that in my post
doesn't matter if I search or enter it direct, it doesn't un-grey the 'next' button

      I think it's broke

        wooops missed that sorry

Know this is daft but have you get the repeat orders from unregistered customers ticked? Only thing I oculd think of. Sorry couldn't be more helpful. D

          Thanks, Donna,

I tried ticking it and it didn't make any difference. It was the only thing I could see that might be related but, alas, it didn't help

I bet the problem is the length of your order numbers. I bet the offline order wizard is looking for 14 characters, so it thinks the 9 is an incomplete order number.

Sorry Tracey - but this is tucked away within the application so there is no way to change it.

              ah ok.
Funny, Darren asked if it was something to do with my modified order numbers too
You're right though. If I add in 6 (random) numbers after the order number, the 'next' button appears!

So it'll affect anyone with shortened order numbers then?
In V8 and V9? (seeing as I've just found it does the same in V9 too, I hadn't looked)

Well, this isn't a supported feature so I guess it might.

                  ok..no probs
At least I know the cause now
                  Thanks, Chris

I'm getting this problem (was driving me mad). So, in summary you either have ridiculously long order numbers, or go without the abilty to call up a customer's details when they make another order. Have I got that right?

I've fixed this but only by putting the name of the website as the number prefix - made it all 14 characters exactly

It's less of a problem if you're using Business as you can bring up their order via the "New Order" tab, using the short order number, just not via Operations > New Order or using Catalog

My upgrade to Business is on hold, but it's good to know it resolves the issue.

I'd be happy if I could remove the hyphens from the order number. Is this possible do you know?

I *think* that the hyphens are in the report rather than in Actinic.
IIRC, you need a report mod to remove them

v853 Invoices.rpt Order Number Without Hyphens

Attached is an updated Invoice report that has the order number hyphens removed for v853.

It is unofficial and is not supported in any way - use entirely at your own risk.

Backup the original Invoices.rpt file in C:\Program Files\Actinic v8 and unzip and copy over the attached update.
