Duplicate Product and Google Product Feed

I originally wanted a site with 1 product per page but after trawling the forum I found that because the product always goes above the fragments, I could not get the right results for SEO while giving my products the names I wanted. I found on the forum you can adjust the placing of the product/fragments on the page manually for the website but for SEO it would have no effect.

So I opted for many products on a page each product having links to 1 optimised detailed info page for each product.

Then I found this didn't fit in with for Google product exports. My plan now is to create duplicate products with alternative layouts that I can customise for SEO purposes and place one at the top of each relevant detailed info page.

This would give me 1 product per page for google product exports. Then I want to disable the original products from the Google product export, thus only use the duplicate product for the Google feed.

Does anyone know if this plan will work before I go ahead and do it, or will disabling the original product automatically also disable the duplicate product.

Colin why dont you just create a section with one product in it. You can hide the sections from the top level

example would be http://www.rawair.co.uk/acatalog/HQ_Bebop_Prisma.html this page is for google and anyone that finds it through base e.t.c and i also have a multiple product page here http://www.rawair.co.uk/acatalog/Sports_Kites.html

At the bottom on this page you will find the links to the spp's. Using Jans base feed i then tell it to exclude duplicates from my base feed.

Best of both worlds IMHO customer sees a cross section of similar kites and google gets it's spp.

      No.

The whole point of base is to supply unique focussed content. You need to export the original and exclude the duplicates as there could be more than one instance of the original which base will complain about.

I set up Darrens Raw Air site as he highlights to overcome this very issue.

I can see the advantages of what you have done. As always there's a but..

I have set up product names in such a way that I can easily sort by product type within Excel after exporting order data. These names don't necessarily fit with the main keywords for the SPP.

If I go for the Raw Air option, I will need to do quite a lot of extra work on the site hierarchy, plus (i think) there will then have be a SEO/Excel sales report compromise.

So I want to manually exclude each original product individually via exclude from Google Product Search Data Feed tickbox but still allow the duplicate products to be exported to the GPSDF. If Actinic/Google do not like this I want to try to work out another way to have my cake & eat it.

                How about:
                1) Create duplicates in the SPP
                2) Adjust the duplicate product names to suit the SPP keywords
                3) Export the Google Product Search File,
                4) Manually take out the original product lines from the txt report before sending to google.

Does anyone think this would fall foul of Google's rules.

So long as the submitted feed has a single product then that is fine if you think that is the best route for you and your existing reports.

                    Cheers,

                    I'd better get going then.

Just having some crisps off the table first.
