If only Fasthosts cared enough to change their ways?!
I don't think FH are that interested - they are a budget host - what they have works for most of the people most of the time. But ecommerce increasingly requires more processing power, tighter security, SSL, PCI etc etc - this is simply not the market that FH target. IMO

But if they do not take care of the little problems, very soon, they turn into big problems, I would not buy Fasthosts stocks and shares if they care so little about customer feedback. Little customers turn into big customers .....

This is the latest contact from Fasthosts:

        Dear Brian,

Thanks for contacting us with your support enquiry.

As I mentioned during our earlier conversation, I had a customer experiencing exactly the same issues regarding retrieval of orders using actinic as those described by your customers.

This issue was resolved whilst we were discussing the issue.
It may be the case that your customers are now able to retrieve the orders without issue.

If you would be kind enough to check with them and get back to us if the problem is reoccurring our engineers will look into this issue.

So who's the lucky person with the working site now then

I would be pretty pee'd with that sort of response, unless you know who the person is. It implies that they feel Actinic users are a rare breed and you are merely troubling them.

to be fair, it's not the 'budget' part that is the problem. I think that issue is that they are a fairly big/popular host with little or no interest in helping a minority.

We are experiencing the same problems with Catalise (formerly Drummond Media). I spoke to them this morning and they have confirmed that our site is hosted on a Fasthosts server.

We have managed to figure out this temporary work around until the problem is resolved:-

In Actinic, go to Help|Troubleshooting|Web Site Analysis. Clicking on this seems to free up the server and you can then download orders. After a few minutes it seems to lock again, so you will have to follow this procedure each time you download orders.

                    Fasthost 408 Request Timeout

We are also having this problem with Fasthost. I thought I'd add some extra info

                    a) We have two domains using actinic on fast host, one on windows and the other on a Linux server. Both domains are Actinic V6 and use all the same core templates.

                    b) Currently the Windows domain is fine, but the Linux domain has experience this 408 Request Timeout error 3 times in the past month (the current problem being the 3rd).

                    c) On the two previous occasions the problem has "resolved itself" without any explanation from fasthost.

I'll post again...If I have any new info

                        The latest communication from FastHosts:

Thanks for getting in contact regarding the Actinic issues

I do apologise for the time it is taking to resolve the reported problems; I can confirm I have collected enough evidence to allow the engineers to carry out an internal investigation to find the cause of the problem and offer a resoloution.

Again I offer my apologies for the problems reported and apologise for any inconvenience caused. We realise the importance of a reliable hosting system and will do all we can to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Thankyou in advance for your patience, as soon as we have any further information this will be communicated to our customer base.

Thank you so very much - managed to get a whole load of orders!!!!!!!!!!
However, they are all in the tab Pending Payment Service Provider - dont ask me why as they are all paid for!!

Now I can concentrate on moving hosts - choice between Heart Internet andActinic. Anybody any pointers?

                              - choice between Heart Internet andActinic
no contest - it has to be a specialist host.

Heart is just another budget/home user host- if you want business hosting you need to move away from generalist hosts - go for a specialist you will not regret it.

Need to do this today. Choice: Actinic, Heart (via Reseller), Pinbrook!
Have lots of sites so need the budget to be right. Actinic have a "Silver" package with a discount for Cover customers. Need good customer support to.

Can I phone you Pinbrook? Guess there are a lot of Fasthosts clients jumping ship this morning!
